Description

Dosage Calculation Competency 2 Overview Medication administration is often a key component of a nurse’s role. It is imperative that the nurse be able to accurately calculate medication dosages and safely administer medications. This unit will provide a review of many of the topics covered in NURS 2026/2106 and NURS 2207 related to the fundamentals of medication administration. Expected Outcomes Upon completion of this unit students will be able to demonstrate competence in:       

Meeting all expected outcomes from Math Review (formerly DCC 1) and DCT 1 (formerly DCC2) Understand the method used for calculating Ideal Body Weight, Body Surface Area and Body Mass Index Demonstrate that ability to calculate oral dosages in solid and liquid forms Demonstrate that ability to calculate dosages for subcutaneous and intramuscular routes Understanding reconstitution procedures for medications in powder or liquid concentration forms. Demonstrate the ability to determine heparin doses based on a nomogram Understanding the process of mixing 2 solutions/medications in 1 syringe.
