Menu Click on the bottom-left menu button to bring up options for adjusting your benchtop. The camera view can be moved by pressing the arrow keys ( ↑ ↓ ← → ). This can be reset here. It’s highly recommended for you to adjust the lighting to one that you feel comfortable with. Time dilation and time keeping Click on the red clock button on the right to bring up options to control the simulation time. There are two functions here: 1. 2.

Stopwatch on the left Time dilation on the right

Pushing time dilation to 0.0 will help you cheat by not allowing the enzyme to work while you’re still pipetting! This is very helpful when you are still learning the controls.

Pipettes Tips

Each pipette is suited for a range, as they come with dierent errors. Unlike real pipettes, you can go below the minimum range specified here. The cross removes your pipette tip.

Guide to manipulating objects

Eppendorf Tubes Tubes begin open and unselected. There are four dierent ways to interaction with the Eppendorf and larger tubes: 1. 2. 3. 4.

open/close the lid move a pipette to it select it & label Move it around.

To open and close the lid, right-click (double-click on a trackpad) on the lid itself. When re-opened, the lid will hereafter stand vertically. You can mix the tube while the lid is closed by clicking on the shake icon.

Multiple Eppendorf tubes can be mixed if they are closed and selected. Press and hold the M key until you see them shaking. To move tubes around, left-click and drag on the bottom half of the tube. Arrows will fade in to tell you that you have your mouse cursor in the right part of the tube.

left-click and dragging on or below the number labels along the bottom side.

Notes 1.

The menu at the bottom left of the well-plate allows you to mix the plate and measure the absorbances as well. Left click

it to reveal the options.

Pipetting After making a New Tip, left-click on the top portion of a tube to position the tip above it. To pipette up (aspirate), press the Y key while your mouse cursor is hovering over the tube. To pipette down (dispense), press the H key instead.

If your pipette isn’t responding, ensure your mouse is over the neck of the tube that you are interacting with. If that doesn’t help, move the tip to a dierent tube and back again. Remember to change tips when necessary!

The performance of the Unity app hasn’t been optimised, so there may be pauses from time to time. 2. On a PC browser, pressing F11 will not fully maximise the screen. Use the full screen button at the bottom-right hand corner. 3. Just like in real life, there is no Undo button. In the worst case scenario, restart the App by refreshing your browser ( F5 ). 4. All the menus can be cleared by clicking on their button. This generates more bench space....
