Early Childhood Project Courtney Clement Liberty University 07/01/2019

Parent involvement is a very important element to student development; also to the value that is placed upon not only the teacher, but school as a whole. I have developed activities to help involve parents in what the students are doing, but also in the culture of the school. I want the parents to feel loved, appreciated, and like they are a part of a team that wants their child to succeed. They activities I have created are as follows and are further explained in my PowerPoint Presentation. August: Get to Know Your Teacher September: All About Me October: Pumpkin Carving Contest November: Thanksgiving Dinner December: Christmas Extragaza January: Cocoa with Grandparents February: Mardi Gras Float March: Green Day April: Easter Egg Hunt May: Tea with Mom June: Donuts for Dad July: Fourth of July These activities will help get parents involved. In the article, “Family Involvement in Preschool Education: Rationale, Problems and Solutions for the Participants” says that the involvement of the parent rest solely upon the teacher (Kocyigit). So this is why I have made these activities up. I have made some of them so I can get to know the parents and they can get to

know me. Some are solely for the purpose of fun and others will allow the parents to create something with their child. I have included activities to help all the parents get together and mingle with one another and other students. I have also included activities that are for Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. Although any parent or family may attend. The article “Fathers Involvement and Preschool Children’s Behavior in Stable Single-Mother Families,” states that there is no evidence that children without fathers have behavioral problems later in life (Flouri). So these activities will allow for students and parents to experience what other parents may be going through and also aid in support for those parents. According to the article, “Evaluating Parent Involvement and Family Support in Early Intervention and Preschool Programs,” parents should be given every opportunity to be involved. I hope that the activities I have planned will give them the opportunity to do so. I will also make very clear to the parents that my classroom has an open door policy which means they are welcomed in my classroom at anytime. Which means at any time they are welcome to come be with the class.
