Description

EMT 1150 NOTES (ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS) PARALLEL DC CIRCUITS 6.9 VOLTMETER LOADING EFFECTS Voltmeters also have an internal resistance, which occurs when a comparison is made between the two terminals of interest. While an ammeter places additional resistance with the branch of interest in sequence, a voltmeter places additional resistance over the element. For circuits with resistances up to the high kilohm level, most optical voltmeters can be used without regard for the impact of the internal resistance on reading. If the resistances are in the megohm scale, though, you can examine the influence of the resistance inside. Though, an analog VOM is a different matter, since the internal resistance levels are much lower and the internal resistance levels are a function of the used size....
