Description

ENC1101 03/08/19 Reader Response 3. “Just Walk On By.” “Change is inevitable, growth is optional.” Sometimes you can avoid that changes happen but there are situations in which the only thing you can do is benefit from the changes and make them work for you. Frequently changes mean progress. When I came to this country I chose to change to fit in. In the first place, I came to the Unites States when I was fourteen years old, and I realized that many people of different nationalities live in this country. In high school I changed my way of greeting my classmates a bit because they were of different nationalities and had different cultures. Some of them I greeted with kisses, others I gave my hand and in other cases only with words. I do not change my way of being or my values. I have only tried to behave according to the situation. I have changed the use of some words depending on the people I am with because I know that what it means to me is not the same as what it means to them. I think that certain groups of people are stereotype depending on their race, nationality and even depending on the gender. I see this situation very badly but some people think that because someone of the black race did something bad all the other people of that race do the same, or because some Cubans steal or do not want to work all the others are equal. People should be valued individually because we are all different. I think that sometimes people must change when they are close to others. This does not mean that they change their personality or their tastes because they would stop being themselves. The change to which I refer is to treat each one according to their surroundings and lifestyle.

As has been noted, every so often change is good. You should never stop being who you are and be proud of your roots, but you can improve yourself and change some aspects to become better and for the people next to you feel comfortable....
