I chose Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand as my academic track because it is connected with my preferred course in college which is Civil Engineering. I have chosen this because it is a field where I can improve my skills and knowledge in planning, designing, and constructing. It will also help me create something that will contribute to the society. This course would help me take up challenges in a more disciplined and analytical manner. I will study for my board examinations to obtain a license in order for me to practice as a professional Civil Engineer. After I pass the board exams, I will look for career opportunities and do something worthwhile to the society. If given the chance, I might start a business in connection with the field I have chosen. I am Richard Angelo C. Loreno, 17 years old, and I live in Barangay Balinacon Nagcarlan, Laguna, Philippines. My mother is Angelina C. Loreno, and my father is Rizalito G. Loreno, who is working as a gas engineer in the ship management company, Zodiac Maritime Ltd. I have four elder sisters. I studied in St. Mary’s Academy of Nagcarlan during my high school years, and I am an incoming Senior High School student for the next school year. I’m going to take up Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand as my academic track. My hobbies are drawing, dancing, and acting. My favorite subject is math as I have mastered the use of different computational methods to solve a problem. Also, I was able to develop my communication skills, whether oral or in written form, through the projects and activities I involved myself in. Having practiced these kind of skills, I have decided to take up Civil Engineer as my college course. I am most proud of the Leadership Award I received during my high school years because it is an indication of being able to guide and supervise my co-students. I have been able to develop this skill by joining the student council in our school back when I was in Grade 7. I further developed it through group projects, whenever I am assigned as a leader, by making make sure that our work is well-done. My father have worked in your company for 20 years. He is getting older and the scholarship will be a big help as a financial support for my Senior High education. I have siblings who are still in college, and due to their tuition and allowances, it will be difficult for my parents to support my studies. Also, my mother, who is a cancer survivor, is still having her expensive medical maintenance. Hopefully, I will be awarded the Sammy & Eyal Ofer Scholarship to help my parents in their financial worries. I am a hardworking student and I passed all my subjects with flying colors. If I will be awarded the Sammy & Eyal Ofer Scholarship, I will not waste this opportunity, and I will prove, through my perseverance and determination, that I am worthy of this scholarship.
