Section A: Please answer one question and answer both parts of the question you choose. Both parts carry equal marks. 1. In a recent article titled “Pipelines, platforms and the new rules of Strategy”, Alystyne et al (2016) argue that platform business models require “new rules of strategy”. (a) Outline and critically evaluate their argument.

(b) In the case of either UBER OR AirBnB, illustrate the organisation’s business model, critically discuss the strategic challenges and the competences the organisation must develop if they are to build and sustain competitive advantage. (25 marks)
OR 2. Having studied the airline industry in this module (most immediately through the two case studies - “The US airline industry” and “AirAsia”), critically evaluate what: (a) The US airline Industry case and (b) AirAsia case teach us about strategy in established industry settings.
