Michael Arnold CHE 111-048 Ting Wang August 29, 2016 Experiment 1 Avoiding Plagiarism with Works Cited Lab Purpose: To practice writing a lab report with proper works cited in order to avoid plagiarism in not only this class, but all others. Procedure: See page 52 of lab manual (French, 2015). No changes to the published procedure. 

Results: 1.) The authors of the article are attempting to explain “on the molecular level what may be happening” (Kuntzleman, 2014) when dry ice is placed in water. In order to show this, a dry ice pellet was placed in a container of water. The mass of the water after sublimation was found to be less, proving the source of the fog was the water that the pellet was placed in, and not the water in the atmosphere (Kuntzleman, 2014). Also, when the pellet was placed in other liquids, the fog was found to be formed from that liquid (Kuntzleman, 2014).

Issue 3 (2014): Pages 186-194. Print. 4.) Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been found to invade all types of cancer cells while the cancer cells are still progressing (ZHAO, 2014). This discovery can be very useful to finding the ultimate cure to fighting off these cancer cells and eliminating cancer as a whole (ZHAO, 2014). Analysis: 1.) 3.) A well-known scientist and one of his award winning students were caught plagiarizing. The two were both with the University of Waterloo in Canada. The two were caught using the same research and some data from both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, Santa Barbara. What was stolen was research concerning “advanced battery technology” (Munro, 2012). The very odd thing about this particular case of plagiarism was that the research published by the two

Canadian scientist was published two weeks before the publication came out with the original research. This happened as a result of the original creators of the work posted their work to their website after finding out that their research had been accepted to be published. Supposedly there was a sizeable amount of “unaltered text without appropriate references” (Munro, 2012) and that most of the plagiarized work was “a cutand-paste job” (Munro, 2012). The repercussions for the two scientists at the University of Waterloo have included the retraction of the stolen publications and some previous publications due to “lack of appropriate references” (Munro, 2012). Conclusion: I have learned that it is extremely important and crucial to not plagiarize. In order to avoid this I must use my own ideas and work; however, when I must borrow from other’s work, I know how to cite their work in order to give them credit. This is a skill that will not only help in this class or college, but will be useful to me for the rest of my life. Works Cited: 
