EXPERIMENT 2: KINETIC OF CHEMICAL REACTION – IODINATION OF CYCLOHEXANONE

Chemical kinetics is the study of the way an experimental condition influences the rate of a chemical reaction and provides information regarding the reaction mechanism and transition states. The rate of a chemical reaction at a constant temperature depend on a proportionality coefficient, k, and the concentration of the reactants raised to an experimentally determined power and is defined as the rate law. The sum of these powers provides the order of a chemical reaction. The proportionality coefficient known as the rate constant is also found experimentally. The kinetics of a reaction is influenced by various factors such as the composition of reactant and product, the reactant concentration, temperature and catalyst. 3
