Finding the Density of Aluminum with Multiple Methods Lab Procedure: Part 1: 1. Measure a sample of aluminum foil to find the length, width, and height. Record in lab notebook. 2. Calculate the volume by multiplying the three sides. Record answer. 3. Place weigh boat on a scale and tare. 4. Weigh foil sample and record mass. 5. Divide mass by volume to find the density of the foil and record. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 four more times with aluminum samples of varying sizes. 7. Use results from above to calculate average density of aluminum foil and record in notebook. Part 2: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
Fill a clean 100mL beaker with 50mL of water. Obtain mass of an aluminum sample and record. Place sample in the water and record the new volume of water. Find the volume of the sample and record. Find the density of the foil and record. Repeat steps 1-5 four additional times. Calculate average density of foil and record.
Part 3: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Find average value of density based on all 10 samples. Calculate standard deviation between recorded densities and overall average. Use a cited source to get accepted value for the density of aluminum foil and record. Calculate percent error between the accepted value and the value found in step 1. Calculate the price of foil per square inch and record....
