Description

ACC/ACF3100 MID-SEMESTER TEST (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) The mid-semester test (MST) in ACC/ACF3100 is scheduled to be held in Week 7 at 4pm on Monday 19 April (AEST, Melbourne time). The test will be delivered online and will be accessible via the eAssessments platform at https://formative.eassessment.monash.edu/my/ You will need to use an electronic device for this purpose. The test will comprise short answer questions (note: these questions are labelled as ‘Essay/Case study questions’ in the General Knowledge Practice eExam that may be accessed via the PowerPoint file in the MST section of Moodle). While the format of the questions will be similar to the questions typically covered in tutorials, please note that you should prepare for the test using all of the relevant unit materials (see below). You will be given further details about how to access the test closer to the date of the test. This MST contributes towards 15% of your final grade in the unit. The test can only be undertaken during the designated time stated above. Failure to undertake the MST at the scheduled time will result in you receiving a grade of 0 for this assessment component in the unit.

What do I do if I am overseas and the time zone of the test is between 10pm and 6am local time? If the centrally organised MST is scheduled between 10pm and 6am in the time zone in which you reside, then you need to contact the Chief Examiner (CE) of the unit to request an alternative arrangement. For students based in Australia, New Zealand, China, South East Asia and most states in the US, the time zone should not be an issue.

Is the ACC/ACF3100 MST open book? Yes, the MST in ACC/ACF3100 is open book.

What does “Open book” mean? Open book refers to the materials you will be allowed to access during the test. This includes the prescribed and recommend textbooks, the prescribed journal articles, and the resources included on the unit’s Moodle site. It also means you need to properly cite third party materials and include a bibliography or list of works cited. It does not include accessing other sources, including sources from a third party tutoring service.

What is the structure of the ACC/ACF3100 MST? The MST will consist of 5 short answer questions (40 marks in total). There are no Multiple Choice questions on the test. You must answer all questions.

What do I need to study? The MST covers lecture materials from week 1 to week 4 inclusive, as well as content taught in tutorials in weeks 1-5. What calculator should I use for the ACC/ACF3100 MST? You are permitted to use any calculator.

Is there a hurdle requirement for ACC/ACF3100 MST? No. The purpose of the test is to provide you with feedback as to how you are progressing in the unit. The MST intends to identify what you know and, more importantly, what you do not know so that you can address the latter specifically before the final exam.

What if I am sick on the day of the MST? Students enrolled at an Australian campus (including those who will be sitting the test from an overseas location) must use the online system to apply for special consideration (refer to the following link for details of how to apply). Please note that special consideration may be granted but is not guaranteed. Take careful note of the specific grounds upon which special consideration may be granted.

What if I have a clash between the ACC/ACF3100 MST and classes in another unit? If your timetabled test (please refer to the Exam timetable tile via my.monash portal) clashes with a lecture or seminar in another unit then you will be required to view the recording for the other units lecture or seminar via learning capture. If you have a clash with a different class activity, please contact the unit coordinator of the affected class to make an alternative arrangement. Neither of the above circumstances will constitute reasonable grounds for special consideration. Your MST takes precedence over other activities during this designated MST period.

What if I have work commitments that clash with ACC/ACF3100 MST? Outside work commitments are not sufficient grounds for special consideration. If you do have outside work commitments, you will be required to make arrangements as early as

possible so that you can attend your timetabled MST, as you would have been given early notice of the scheduled MST. Monash University policy and procedures under Section B of Assessment in Coursework Units: Adjustments to Assessment Procedures state the following: https://www.monash.edu/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/801616/Assessment-in-CourseworkUnits-Adjustments-to-Assessment-Procedures.pdf There are many different circumstances, which may give rise to a special consideration application. Such as: ● short-term serious medical condition. This includes hospital admission, serious injury, severe asthma, and severe anxiety or depression. ● loss or bereavement (for example, death of a close family member). ● family relationship breakdown. ● hardship or trauma. This may include: victims of crime; sudden loss of income or employment; or severe disruption to domestic arrangements. ● obligations to military, jury or emergency services (such as the Country Fire Authority). ● for students registered with the Elite Student Performer Scheme for student athletes, artists, performers participating in a key event and for students competing in key academic events and programs representing the University. ● for student carers, where acute illness or other exceptional cause affects the person for whom they care and impacts the student’s ability to prepare for or perform the assessment. I bring to your attention that special consideration will not be granted for: ● Managing workload from other units of study; ● Managing work commitments; ● Managing activities arising from voluntary representation as a member of a club or society; ● Misreading the examination timetable; or ● Information and communications technology-related problems, except where they could not have been prevented, avoided or the effects minimised by reasonable diligence by students.

When do I get my grade? The MST is being manually marked. You will receive your grade (out of 40) upon completion of the marking process. Feedback will be provided to you by week 9.

What feedback will I receive? The MST will be reviewed during tutorials in week 9. You must attend this session that week. Tutors will be working through the MST test solutions.

Please note the following instructions that will also appear on your MST The duration of the test is 90 minutes. The test contains 5 questions. All questions must be answered. There are a total of 40 marks available on this test, and the test is weighted at 15% of your final mark in the unit. This is an open-book test. For example: Dr Cash Cr Accounts receivable

100 100

Narrations are not required for journal entries.
