Ourgroupisassessingwhethersurroundinglanduseshasaneffectontheparticlesizedistributionofbedsedimentsforfarmdams.Wehypothesizethatintensiveland 4 useswillcausegreatersedimentmobilizationfrompaddocksandthiswillcauseaverageparticlesizetobesmallerindamsthathaveahistoryofanimalstockingor intensivecropping(canolaplanting)comparedtofallowpaddocksorthebushlandreserve.Wewillcollect5sedimentsamplesofapproximately100cubiccmsfromeachof thefarmdamslistedaboveusingamodifiedEckmangrabsampler.Thesamplesarerandomlylocatedwithineachdam.Wherepossiblewewillwadetothesamplingpoint totakethesample.Thelargerdamsarelikelytorequiretheuseofasmallinflatableboattocollectthesamplebecausewaterwillbetoodeeptowade.  Listsystemsofworkfortheactivity/task: ●Training

WehavedevelopedSOPsforthefieldactivitiesandthesewillbeincludedinourVirtualCampReportforformalassessment. TutorKattelaccompaniesgroupsintothefieldwherepossible.Wewillnotundertakefieldworkinvolvingtheinflatableboat unlessheispresent.ThisneedwillbeassessedonDay1ofthefieldcamp.

TheEckmangrabsamplercomesfromtheGeotechnicallabintheDepartmentofInfrastructureEngineering.Geotechstaff haveprovidedtrainingtotutorKattelinitsuse,whointurnwilldemonstrateitsusetousonthefirstfieldvisit.


