1.0 INTRODUCTION PETRONAS or Petroleum Nasional Berhad is a Malaysian oil and gas company founded in 1974. The Malaysian government owns 100% of the shares in the company. The company is responsible for all oil and gas resources in Malaysia and develops and adds value to them. Petronas is closely involved in virtually every sector of the oil and gas industry through subsidiaries and joint ventures, from upstream exploration and mining to downstream refining and distribution. As of March 31, 2005, the Petronas Group had 103 wholly-owned subsidiaries, 19 partly holding entities and 57 affiliates. The Petronas Group is made up of these companies involved in various oil and gas related businesses. PETRONAS pursues a comprehensive strategy of integration, value creation and globalization. Business activities include upstream and downstream oil and gas exploration and production, petroleum product marketing and distribution, trade, natural gas processing and liquefaction, gas pipeline operation, LNG marketing, petrochemical production and sales, transportation, real estate investment, etc. Petronas Malaysia has evolved from a domesticallybased state-owned oil company to a fully integrated international oil and gas company and has achieved significant milestones along the way. Petronas is the largest oil and gas company in Kuala Lumpur and the national oil company of Malaysia. With more than 100 years of experience, it has become a market leader in crude oil production, natural gas exploration and production upstream development. The name Petronas was first used in 1922 when the British North Borneo Company changed its name to British Petroleum (BP). In 1978, BP split up and formed several companies. The petrochemical business became BP Chemicals, the oil and gas business became BP West Coast Oil Company, the natural gas business was split into British Gas Overseas Limited (BG Oils), and BNOC became a subsidiary of Petrocons Inc. However, in 1981, BG Oils changed its name to Petronas LNG. Petronas LNG started supplying liquefied natural gas to customers since 2002. Petronas therefore has four products and services: Process Gas, Refueling and Cooling, LNG Refueling, Virtual Pipeline Systems and Carbon Dioxide.

2.0 ASSESMENT THE COMPANY

3.0 SWOT ANALYSIS Petronas is one of the most successful companies in the sector, and it should continue to be that way. Petronas conducts a thorough SWOT analysis and uses the results in its strategic decision-making. It is essential that the SWOT analysis process at a company is an interactive one that requires collaboration between several departments such as finance, marketing and operations; human resources; logistics; strategic planning; management information systems; and so on. Using a SWOT analysis, you can figure out where your company stands in relation to its competitors in a certain market. In this process, which is offered at Petronas, internal strengths and weaknesses are identified first, followed by the assessment of opportunities and challenges encountered by the company in the larger business environment. (Strength) Another advantage of this corporation is that it has a varied range of business interests in the oil and gas industries and associated industries, which makes it a formidable competitor. Their core interests include the upstream exploration and production of petroleum, as well as the development of natural refineries. Transactions in the areas of petrochemical marketing and distribution, gas treatment and liquefaction, gas transmission pipeline network operation, liquefied natural gas marketing, petrochemical business logistics, automobiles and real estate. Furthermore, Petronas has a very close working relationship with its customers and suppliers. In order to better understand their customers' demands through listening, the company has made it a point to always provide their customers with the greatest possible product that will result in their complete pleasure. As a result of the high quality and effectiveness of the product, such as Primax 97, it will attract repeat customers who will purchase the product on a regular basis. (Weakness) The weakness of PETRONAS is its lack of complete autonomy. As we all know PETRONAS is a Malaysian company wholly owned by the Malaysian government. It has become impossible for PETRONAS to operate independently because politicians can intervene in the day-to-day operations of the company. Because PETRONAS relies on governments to make important policy decisions, this will affect the company's overall effectiveness. Decisions

are delayed as a result of this factor. They cannot make any decisions without government approval. PETRONAS, on the other hand, lacks the desire to work. A company's executives are the least involved in the company's operational activities. They are entitled to a fixed salary and are not liable for any profits or losses that may arise. (Opportunities) PETRONAS has gain many knowledge in term in racing technology. They have been partnership with Mercedez AMG Formula One team since 2010. Petronas succeed to produce Fluid Technology Solution to Mercedez AMG Formula One team that have been won to world championship. This define that, the Fluid Technology Solution that provide by PETRONAS has successfully effective. This will make people open their eyes that PETRONAS technology have quality and can attract more people to buy their product. (Threat) The threat that has to face by PETRONAS is to compete with other big company such as Shell, Caltex, Petron and others at Malaysia. This is because other company also have advantages in technology and others to produce quality product. Moreover, PETRONAS have to develop more product that can give benefit to the consumer so they can compete with others company.
