Textbook ❑

There are two alternative textbooks for the course. Student may choose either of the following: ➢ Investments, by Z. Bodie, A. Kane, and A. Marcus, 11th Ed., McGraw-Hill Irwin, 2018 ➢ The custom version of Bodie et al (2018) called FINS2624 - Portfolio Management 2e, prepared by Robert Bishop

The custom book is an exact print of the full hardback version but only includes the chapters we will be using in this course.

You may use earlier versions of the text - up to the 9th edition. However some of the references in the lecture notes and the content/examples will not always be the same. It is not advised to buy any version earlier than the 9th edition

Lectures ❑

4

Please see the lecture timetable online

Lectures will be 2 hours and will occur on all 10 weeks (including iLab and interim exam weeks) ➢ Lectures will start promptly so we can comfortably get through all the material

Please do the assigned readings before attending the lecture to make the session more productive

Lecture recordings will be available but may not capture all the materials such as white board illustrations etc

Tutorials ❑ ❑

Tutorial problem sets for each tutorial will be posted on Moodle at least one week in advance ➢ Each problem set will be based on the previous week’s Lecture

You should attend the tutorial and submit your problem set solutions weekly

5

There are weekly tutorials

This includes week 1: you must complete Problem Set 0 posted on Moodle which will be covered in Tutorial 1 ➢ Use the Lecture 0 slides labelled “Lecture 0 - T2 2019”, the online lecture video labelled “Lecture 0 Video” and your prior knowledge to answer the Problem Set 0

Tutorials

6

Weekly problem set account for 10% of the course total marks. Students are required to complete a total of 10 problem sets for 10 marks, i.e. 1 per problem set (including Problem Set 0). So it is important that you complete the problem sets, attend each tutorial and participate ➢ Problem set solutions need to be handwritten and signed ➢ You don’t have to get everything right, but only genuine attempts will be credited ➢ As well as attending, you should actively participate/contribute in tutorials ➢ Any request to leave early will be counted as non-attendance and you will not receive a mark for that week ➢ If you miss a tutorial, you can attend another one – inform the relevant tutors. Please check course outline Section 4 regarding special consideration related to tutorials ➢ To get the full credit 1 mark for each tutorial, you must: ➢ 1) attend the tutorial for the whole duration; AND ➢ 2) honestly attempt the problem set and turn in suggested solutions (hard copy) for the problem set in that tutorial.

For the week 10 lecture, as there will be no follow up tutorial, questions and answers will be posted for your revision

Formative Quiz ❑ ❑

7

A brief online quiz with 20 questions will be administered in week 4 This quiz is not weighted and more for you to determine where you stand with the subject ➢ The quiz mark will not be recorded and will not impact any other assessment task

Feedback on the correct answer to each question will be provided

Completion of the quiz is compulsory. If you do not complete the quiz, you will lose 1 participation mark
