Description

As much as I'd like to say that a trigger warning isn't necessary, i do believe it should have been given. The whole purpose of having trigger warnings are for those who have PTSD and also for those who would get upset thinking about past trauma. Nobody knows what other people have gone through so it may affect everyone differently. Personally, the essay On Likability by Lacy M. Johnson, did bring up some past memories out of no where since i didn't know what it would have been about because there was no trigger warning. I do admit that I teared up a bit seeing that it wasn't just me who had to go through all these awful situations. Yes, I know that i am not the only human being or in this case woman, who had to go through such trauma. But, hearing the same type of story from another person, just brings me back to that depressed state i was in that i do not want to remember. Just like Lacy M. Johnson, I am not ashamed of what i went through and it did make me stronger as a person. But somebody else could have read this very same essay but could have ended up losing their cool compared to me. Everybody takes certain things differently. But just for reassuring reasons, its just better to have a trigger warning so we can somewhat have an idea about whats going on. That's the same reason why others perfer to not have a trigger warning though. They tend to believe that it ruins the whole story if a trigger warning is given. I'd like to disagree with that statement. Just because there is a warning that there is going to be something so explicit being discussed, doesn't ruin the story becuase everybody's story is different which also means that the details will be different. In fact, I asked a friend what he thought about this and he belived that it isn't necessary for you or the author to look out for those who has faced any trauma. He also said that this was just an essay, so a couple words wouldn't really affect anybody unless they are "very sensitive". I honestly find that so inconsderate and insensitive of someone to think like that because they dont know what other people have gone through. Those "couple of words" was able to bring tears to my eyes so fast. Its not that im "very sensitive" or "not mature enough", its just that giving a trigger warning doesn't hurt anybody....
