HSBC: Global Banking & Markets Virtual Experience - FORAGE Virtual Internship...

Description

Companies want to help students understand the interesting work that they do and the exciting career opportunities that are available for graduates . Virtual Work Experience Programs are online programs built and endorsed by leading companies like HSBC. HSBC Holdings P.L.C. is a British multinational banking and financial services organization headquartered in London, United Kingdom and is one of the world's largest banks. Virtual Work Experience Programs on Forage are designed first and foremost to help students. They contain a series of resources and tasks designed to simulate the real-world experience of starting a career and are open access to everyone, even international students. By completing a Forage Virtual Internship, the students were able to better understand the diverse and exciting career pathways available; and build the skills and confidence that will set them up for success as they move from the world of study to the world of work. Conducted in Forage that serves as the digital platform in performing this virtual training experience, it typically takes 6-8 hours or so. Last October 13, 2021, I had the HSBC: Global Banking & Markets Virtual Experience, there were various modules that correspond to the various steps I would undertake when completing an audit. I started the program at 10:00 am. The first module was entitled Identify M&A targets for offshore expansion, for this task I need to make a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the criteria used to filter the list of potential targets and the preferred target and how it specifically satisfies the criteria.

The second task was Create a Debt Market Update, in this task the HSBC gave us Four charts on EUR monthly issuance volumes, GBP monthly issuance volumes, issuance by ratings and issuance by tenor; and Commentary describing the trends outlined by the charts that needed a PowerPoint presentation about new issue tracker using excel and some glossary of terms. The third task entitled, Analyze a Debt Financing Opportunity, in this task I need to prepare a word document covering Three credit-related strengths regarding the proposed debt financing transaction, Three risks related to the proposed debt financing transaction, and Potential mitigants to the identified risks. The fourth Task is about Identify a trading opportunity is about the trading floor at HSBC, a large amount of work goes towards identifying strong trades that will add value whilst reducing unnecessary risks in the company's portfolios. To identify these opportunities, our traders possess strong quantitative skills along with sharp analytical minds so that they can draw conclusions quickly and be one of the first responders in novel market conditions. At HSBC, our reach covers all major asset classes, and so our traders need to have a strong understanding of the dynamics of these markets. Senior traders can leverage their many years of experience, whereas junior traders will tend to rely heavily on the statistical analyses they conduct. It is the combination of experience and analysis that ultimately leads to the strongest trade ideas. The next task is about to Find the Right Product for a Client. anks like HSBC are typically made up of a front office and a middle/back office. The middle

and back offices of the bank are involved in the daily operational running of the bank, as well as dealing with important matters such as compliance with regulations, projects to improve the bank and so forth. The front office interacts with the client directly, to sell products to clients and trade the bank's balance sheet in an attempt to maximize returns to the bank. It's important that Salespeople discuss suitable products with their clients. Markets salespeople are typically placed on specific desks to sell specific products. Examples include Russian equities, currencies, commodities, and so forth. Salespeople in Markets at HSBC interact directly with institutional clients in order to assess their needs, provide general market commentary and work with other members of the desk such as traders to price and execute their desired trades. The sixth and last task for this about the Improve a Trade Process. A custodian bank is a financial institution that holds customers' securities for safekeeping to prevent them from being stolen or lost. Investment advisors are required (by banking regulation) to arrange for a custodian bank for the assets, they manage for their clients. The role of a custodian in such a case would be to: hold in safekeeping assets/securities such as stocks, bonds, commodities such as precious metals and currency (cash), domestic and foreign. When clients want to transfer assets in or out of their custody accounts, the custodian bank facilitates the trade. Therefore, custodian banks serve to arrange settlement of any purchases and sales and deliveries in/out of such securities and currency. The custodian may hold stocks or other assets in electronic or physical form. Thirty years ago, stocks ownership was recorded on paper securities statements

and kept in vaults, but these days the records (and often the instructions to trade) are mostly digital. Since they are responsible for the safety of assets and securities worth hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars, custodians tend to be large and reputable firms, like HSBC. HSBC: Global Banking & Markets Virtual Experience, has been a great one. Throughout the whole training, I experience some difficulties in Redesign the operating process based on electronic (not fax) instructions that can be processed digitally. HSBC needs to deploy extra human operational staff to handle the faxed instructions, which is time-consuming, risky and costly. Therefore, a new process will be a welcome change and will save costs well beyond post-pandemic times. A single slide in a PowerPoint deck is sufficient for this deliverable. Upload it in the file submission step below. Communicate via voice message because the client should stop sending fax instructions and use the digital banking platform to send instructions. Your voice message should be between 30 and 60 seconds long. Record an audio file of your message and upload it in the file submission step below. As a junior analyst working for HSBC Markets in the Sales team. I am supporting a Senior Client Relationship Manager who needs your help with two important clients. The first client is a large global technology company the other is a sophisticated Swiss hedge fund interested in the emerging markets. The Client Relationship Manager emails me with product options (list A, found in the resources section below) for you to assess for its applicability to both clients’ interests.

Prepare and submit an email response to the Relationship Manager (RM) explaining which stocks he should discuss with each client because they will match the client’s needs. The email I made, should be precise and factual. I am writing an internal email to the RM who will use my work to inform his conversation with the HSBC client. I am not emailing the client directly. A short email of 100 - 300 words will suffice. Over all I enjoyed this Virtual Experience because I learned a lot and it abled me experience on how to handle a real-life situation in making advices in the external user of the information about the HSBC Company....
