Description

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN DEPARTMENT OF FRENCH AND ITALIAN FR104 Pronunciation Test 1

This assignment has to be completed in the Language Lab (FLB G8b) or on your own computer, provided you have a good microphone. Help will be provided at the lab if needed. You will use one of the computers to record a number of sentences. I encourage you to do the following before the recording: • Print out this document and read it entirely before you start. • Open the corresponding Interrogation de prononciation audio file on Moodle • Work on each sentence, one at a time: listen to it several times and annotate the document to make personal notes of the things you feel you need to pay particular attention to (e.g., silent consonants, liaisons, combination of vowels making an unexpected sound…) • Repeat the sentence you are working on several times, paying attention to your pronunciation and intonation, and trying to reproduce the sentence as authentically as possible. • Once you feel that you are ready to do the recording: o Be sure that the computer’s microphone is well adjusted (neither too quiet, nor too loud, nor too close to your mouth). If I cannot hear you well on the recording, you may not be able to rerecord and resend your test! o State your name at the beginning of the recording o Be sure to pause if you need to between sentences. If you make a mistake, repeat the sentence in its entirety. • Please record all sentences on one recording (mp3 or mp4 format only) • Please follow the following format to name your audio file: LASTNAMEfirstname–Phonetique1

(Note: the file name has no space. Your last name should be in uppercase, directly followed by your first name in lower case, a hyphen, and then the name and number of the Pronunciation test) Write your name on p.2 of the annotated document, then scan p.2 of the document with your personal annotations (making sure the quality of the scanned version is good enough for me to be able to read your personal annotations) and convert it to a pdf document Please follow the following format to name your audio file: LASTNAMEfirstname–Phonetique1

(Note: the file name has no space. Your last name should be in uppercase, directly followed by your first name in lower case, a hyphen, and then the name and number of the Phonetics test) Post both your pdf and your audio file on Moodle
