Important Terms Globalisation Globalisation is a process of increasing interconnection and interdependence of different regions and cultures of the world. One of its elements is the growing economic interdependence of countries, but Globalisation also occurs on a political, cultural and ecological level.
Global trade: international trade / import and export of goods and services across international boundaries Outsourcing / Global division of labour: - a situation in which a company employs another organization to do some of its work, rather than using its own employees to do it - usually different steps are done in different places of the world Global players: A company or institution with world-wide presence in production and/or distribution, or which is recognized as a brand, or as a leader in its market segment, by most consumers world-wide

Challenges of Globalisation - Globalisation is inescapable / unstoppable - Outsourcing creates salve-like working conditions - MEDCs control LEDCS → high debts → means of control → rising inequality - High level of consumption of people living in MEDCs → limited resources - Globalisation of crime (e.g. drug dealing) - Corruption - Westernisation → Endangers the cultural diversity - Environmental problems: industries, transportation
How Globalisation should be managed - influence globalisation in a way that the potentials can be used - e.g. through globalising movements for a better system - e.g. through global regulations (e.g. United Nations → questions of effectiveness of institutions like the UN were raised in the past)
