Goal Setting Nazmus Sakib University of people UNIV-1001 Jennifer Brittingham (Instructor)

This Year I set a goal myself to get to be fit. It was always my dream to achieve. But always didn’t get the time to do that properly. To build up a healthy body we have to maintain so many things like- sleep, eating habit, workout etc. I set an up a routine to wake up every morning. But I used to wake up every night so that I couldn’t wake up in the morning. So it was hard for me to wake up in the morning. Every day I was waking up late and also I was eating unhealthy foods. Also I didn’t follow my timeline for sleep workout and eat. So for all this I couldn’t achieve my goal at all. Also I have a full time job. So that it was really difficult for me to follow any kind routine this time. This year during the pandemic I started a course for IT professional. I set a goal time for that. Every week I had to give at least 15 hours for study. And during this pandemic here was lockdown. So it was easy for me to achieve my goal. I had enough time to split up. I set a goal to get improved in professional way. It I successfully achieved my goal. In the first example, I was really lazy and I stayed all night long. To get a healthy life it’s really important to sleep properly. Also I was eating unhealthy foods. And also for my fulltime job it was really hard to get enough time to get time properly. That’s why I wasn’t able to achieve my goal that time. In the second example, I had enough time to do my course because of the Corona pandemic. I could follow my routine properly. I didn’t have to think about sleeping time or worktime at all. I could study anytime. Also I had set every time table for myself to achieve my goal. That’s why I got succeed.

It has been shown that the act of voicing intangible desires and expectations in the form of specific, written objectives increases the chance of achieving those goals. You are dramatically raising the chance of success by putting pen to paper and writing down the things you want to achieve. Goals must also be well-defined in such a way that measurable and concrete progress is possible. How do you decide when you are able to move on to the next thing if you cannot calculate how close or far you are from achieving your goal? A target is something you desire desperately enough to build an action plan to accomplish it, in order to move back any further. It must be significant enough that you are prepared to invest considerable time, energy and effort along the way.

Most businesses use the SMART model for goal setting: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timed. These are specific characteristics used in successful goal setting. It can be used for personal goal setting also. Specific and Well-Defined Being precise and well-defined is the basis for every objective, because you don't know how to score if you don't know where the end zone is. A clear and well-defined aim for a business owner is based on a mission that pushes the business forward.

Measurable in Nature

Measurable in nature refers to the fact that a goal has to have a ruler or scoreboard attached to it. If the goal is to sell more widgets, and you sell one more than last time, that isn't a goal that defines what is needed. Achievable or Realistic You hear it all the time, "I want to make a million dollars." Depending on the situation, this may or may not be a realistic target. Look at the targets and decide if they are too lofty. Setting goals too high can struggle and demoralize your employees while you want to challenge yourself and your team. Relevant to Job Arbitrary priorities don't help anyone. If you set personal goals, business objectives or employee goals, make sure they are important to the job description and the purpose and vision of the business. Timed for Success Know when you're going to decide whether the aim has been accomplished. The target will never be accomplished if you do not set a date for analysis or a deadline for accomplishment, as everyone continues to work towards it.

As I said in my first example that I wanted to get fit. According to that I have set some three goals for that.

Short term goal- I have decided to run 3 km every 6 am morning. So that my will get adjust for the workout. It will warm up my body. 5 days a week I will run every morning. Midterm goal- I have decided to run for at least two months straight. So that I can be fit by that time. Also my target is to run for 10 km per day. Which I will increase slowly by the time. Long term goal- After finishing my midterm goal I will go for my long term goal. I will join to the gym and I will start to work out on daily basis. There have so many exercise to follow. And my goal is to workout properly for a year. So that I can build up my muscle. Word count- 894...
