Description

Group project proposal Class section: 1-2:20 Group color: Red Group members: Justine Rohan, Peter Smith, Ian Blabac, Shannon Cassidy, Cooper Czajki, Kyle Driebeek, and Phil Moszczynski The organization(s) you are studying: Stony Brook Students The name and job title of your contact person(s): Angelica Gregorovic, Student Research question: How does parking at Stony Brook affect student satisfaction? Independent variable(s): Parking location. (South P, Dorms, Stadium) Dependent variable(s): Personal satisfaction with Stony Brook. Proposed methods: We will conduct a survey to study commuter and resident students at Stony Brook. We will survey students both on campus and online communities like Reddit and Facebook. We will most likely use a scale rating (1-5) to gauge student satisfaction. Our survey would most likely include four questions, being: 1) Are you a resident or commuter student? 2) Where do you typically park during school? 3) On a scale of 1-5, what is your personal satisfaction with Stony Brook University? 4) Is your personal satisfaction with Stony Brook University affected by your parking situation? We wouldn’t hesitate to add another question or two if we feel there is important data we’re missing. To get more results, we will also post a Google survey in various online communities like reddit.com/r/SBU and various Stony Brook Facebook groups. When collecting data on campus, we will be sure to go to various locations and hotspots for both commuters and residents, including each parking lot. Project relevance: Our question is important because it will examine how an everyday part of being a Stony Brook student can affect student satisfaction without being related to programs or resources offered by the school. Our research will help understand how personal circumstances affect how people part of an organization feel. This connects with the Hawthorne study in which people reacted more positively at work when their needs were being heard. It will help the organization by showing whether parking is a factor that the school should be modified to improve student satisfaction....
