Chapter 12 Notes ● 3 kinds of physical activity: leisure-time, occupational, and lifestyle ● Research shows that risk for cardiovascular disease, cancers, and type 2 diabetes increases with high amounts of sitting time ● Physical fitness refers to a set of attributes that are either health or skill related ● Health-related components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition ● Aerobic capacity: volume of oxygen the muscles consume during exercise ● Muscular strength: maximal force that a muscle is capable of exerting in one contraction ● Muscular endurance: a muscle’s ability to exert force repeatedly without fatiguing ● Flexibility: range of motion at a particular joint ● Body composition: proportions of fat and fat-free tissues in the body ● Skill-related components: agility, balance, coordination, powe, speed, reaction time ● SMART goals: S-Specific M-Measurable A-Action-oriented R-Realistic T-Time-Oriented ● FITT F-Frequency I-Intensity T-Time
