WARFARIN LAB EFFECTS
DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS Special considerations:
Warfarin works by decreasing the ability of a blood clot. During the treatment, it is highly important to have your blood tested regularly. INR (international normalized ratio) is a test that measures how fast your blood clots are and can determine if the Warfarin medication is within the normal levels of your body. When lab runs a PT you get INR results also 2-3 is therapeutic. Under the score of 2 indicates the blood is too thick. Above 3, it’s the opposite.
POTENTIAL SIDE/ADVERSE EFFECTS Unusual and constant bleeding: Nosebleed Bleeding gums Coughing blood Vomiting blood Blood in urine Dark stool Increased bruising Headache Dizziness Weakness
DIFFERENT STRENGTH DOSE Warfarin tablets have a color that indicates their strength, or how many milligrams (mg) are in each tablet. The shape of the tablet indicates the company that makes it. Make sure your tablets each time you get a refill from the pharmacy to be sure you have the right strength for your treatment.

Take Warfarin exactly as prescribed
Talk to healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
Vitamin K plays an important role in affecting you INR. Blood would not clot without Vitamin K. However, if you want to feel secure about staying in a normal range, do not exceed 80 micrograms of vitamin K a day in the following vegetables:
Do not take double dose of Warfarin if you miss a dose.
