Topic 1: Introduction to International Business Defining International Business; what is meant by Globalization, its benefits and driving forces and criticism; differences between domestic business and international business. Topic 2: International Business and Cultural Differences What is meant by the term culture, political system of a country; economic system of a country; legal system of a country, social structure, Hofstede’s five dimensions of national culture. Topic 3: International Trade Theory Definition and Benefit of free trade; mercantilism; theory of absolute advantage; theory of comparative advantage; HechscherOhlin theory of relative factor endowment. Topic 4: The Political Economy of International Trade Instruments of Free Trade Review Class Mid Term Topic 5: Entry Strategy and Strategic Alliances Choosing entry mode; analysis of different modes of entry with advantages and disadvantages- exporting, licensing, franchising, turnkey contract, joint venture, wholly owned subsidiary. Topic 6: Foreign Direct Investment What is meant by the term FDI, form of FDI, reason behind choosing FDI; theoretical approaches to FDI; benefit and cost of FDI for home and host country; government policy instrument of FDI for home and host country.
