Regionalism is a realist modern American art movement. Regionalist art began in the year of 1930. In the 1930’s regionalist art was widely spread and reassuring images of American heartland. Regionalist art became extremely popular during the time of the Great Depression. The most common theme of art you would see was a community or something in everyday life. The Great Depression was a very tough time for many Americans as well as their families. Regionalist art helped express their feelings and everyday life. 2. What are the important elements or characteristics of American Regionalist Art? Regionalist art is more representative towards a literal look of art. Regionalist artists are shunned by city life. They create nostalgic scenes of rural life. The artists make the paintings characterized by realistic scenes. The Great Depression resulted in a positive view for artists. The nostalgistic views went towards mirgirating a resulting gloom. The Great Depression was only one of two very important art movements in America. The second most important movement was Social Realism. Both of the movements caused some of the greatest paintings to be created during the 20th century. The United States was more of an agricultural nation in the 20th century than in the 21st century....
