In a conventional distribution channel all the different parties in the channel are completely independent and only care about maximizing their own profit, sometimes at the expense of the system as a whole. So there is an entire goddamn section on the types of distribution channels and their characteristics in the book and asset summary, but I cant be arsed to type it over so here’s the slide on what you need to know:

In push vs pull strategies, instead of using marketing to push a product or firm onto a target customer, marketing is used to attract demand from the end user, therefore increasing demand all along the distribution channel, which ends up with increased bargaining power for the producer....
