Reading Sherman Alexie “Indian Education”...
Reading Sherman Alexie “Indian Education”, I am surprised how well his memories are and how smart he is. His stories is a success for anyone. However he had to go through a lot of stuff that most people do not have to go through to be successful. During the reading I picked up how strong Alexie is and how he stood out from his tribe and most Native American lives, it truly is inspirational. Even though in first grader Alexie was bullied by students and, then by his second grade teacher for being too smart. But the reality was something else she did not like was his ethnicity, Native American. It was very clear Betty Towle meant to insult his family by saying “Indian, Indian, Indian” at the parent meeting. Alexie never had a good environment not at school or at home, but he still did big things in life. His dad was an alcoholic and his mother was unable to finish two hundred quilts, meaning she was not making money. I wonder if Alexie was just a smart person, or if he work harder in school because he did not like the reservation life? I wonder if it is because he went to a high school off the reservation, and therefor realizing there is more to life then the reservation life....
