LEADING

As a leading company in dairy manufacturing product Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (DLMI) has a strong leadership to achieve a success while maintaining their position as a dominator in dairy production. They have a lot of collaboration and organizing a lot of development program in order to have a continuous improvement in their company. The Farmer2Farmer (F2F) program of Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (Dutch Lady Malaysia), in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) and the Royal Netherlands Embassy, is back for the fifth time to assist dairy farming smallholders in tapping into the Malaysian Government's "New Wealth" vision for the domestic agri-food business in 2018. F2F was founded in 2013 with the goal of bringing Dutch dairy farmers to Malaysia to share their knowledge, best practices, and skills with local dairy smallholders. The F2F program emphasizes good farming management and administration (sustainability and profitability), good milking/handling practices, an effective feed and nutritional program for cattle, monitoring methods, and a good breeding and fertility program, with a special emphasis on hygiene management and learning the essential elements in reducing the total plate count (TPC) in local milk. Dato' Sri Najib Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, designated dairy farming as a "new wealth" business that local farmers should take advantage of in order to develop a sustainable and self-sufficient dairy sector in his 2018 Budget. The national budget has set out RM200 million to aid its adoption and expansion. Mr. Tarang Gupta, Managing Director of Dutch Lady Malaysia, said the program's goal was to help local smallholders improve their output and milk quality, making dairy farming a reliable and growing source of income for them and their families. “Over the last five years, we have witnessed considerable improvements in the volume of milk given to Dutch Lady Malaysia as a result of this information sharing from F2F and the ongoing support of DVS and the Netherlands Embassy. “Dutch Lady Malaysia, as Malaysia's largest purchaser of local fresh milk, has been able to process over 21.0 million liters of liquid milk and create over 85 million units of milk to supply Malaysian customers during this time,” Tarang said. Tarang went on to say that Dutch Lady Malaysia had been grateful for the opportunity to engage with DVS and the Royal Netherlands Embassy over the years, identifying farmers from both nations who may benefit from the collaboration and facilitating the protocols necessary to make it happen. Dr. Ahmad bin Salleh, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), said DVS has been tasked with developing more sustainable methods to empower smallholders/Malaysian farmers at the grassroot level by implementing best practices that can boost yields. This is to address the rising demand for milk among Malaysian consumers. With this program, DVS has experienced a lot of progress. Year after year, they notice a rise in milk production. Sharing and transferring dairy expertise and knowledge with local dairy farmers, as well as creating shared values for sustainability in business innovation and

8

expansion plans, is gradually opening local farmers' eyes to new ways of dairy farming, which will help them improve the quality and yield of their milk. They believe that programs like F2F can help improve the livelihood of dairy smallholders and ensure that Malaysia develops a sustainable local dairy industry that can support the country's demands and be less reliant on imported raw dairy materials in the future, as part of the Government's call to grow this sector. Local farmer, Encik Zakaria Abd Rahman said during the launch that the Farmer2Farmer program has provided him with a lot of useful advice and exposure, particularly on the right procedures to follow to boost milk output, such as handling and using the right logistic systems. “The program has also enabled us to apply good operational disciplines to our current practices, particularly for scheduled and random milk quality inspections, as well as the support we can get from Dutch Lady's established lab facilities. Encik Zakaria added, "It helps us sleep better at night knowing that the milk we produce is of good quality before it is processed and supplied to Malaysian consumers." Encik Zakaria went on to say that his yearly travels and training with Dutch farmers often motivate him to reconsider the present tactics he employs on his farm, particularly in terms of dairy cow requirements. He is able to obtain a better understanding of how to increase his herd's productivity and, as a result, the quality and quantity of milk produced.

CONTROLLING FUTURE CONTROL

Royal Friesland Campina N.V (RFC) has a strategic plan in place called "Our Purpose, Our Plan: Driving Our Purpose with Sustaining Growth and Value Creation" to concentrate on improving their financial and manufacturing structure for the company future. RFC has been implementing the Fast Forward initiative since 2018, in order to support its future strategy called Route 2020 Strategy and further unlock the company's total potential in the future. The Fast Forward transformation process has been established globally inside the RFC group, with three emphasis areas: 1. PURPOSE DRIVEN 2. COMERCIALLY OBSESSED 3. OWNER’S MINDSET Dutch Lady Milk Industries (DLMI)'s local strategy is to become a leading dairy company by using their great Dutch dairy legacy to feed Malaysian families and children. Their strategic objectives are to preserve their position as the top brand in the Ready-to-Drink category and to strengthen our market leadership in the powdered milk for children category. To improve the company performance, DLMI has incorporated the worldwide Fast Forward program into their culture. In 2019, key focus areas for DLMI were as follows: -Invest in the future to increase volume growth: Continue to supply Malaysians with highquality, nutrient-dense products. Because dairy penetration in Malaysia is lower than in other developed markets, we have concentrated on increasing it by using affordability and availability as important drivers. 9

-Execute to Win: Recognize changes in shopper behavior and be prepared to address their needs. We have changed our portfolio to shifting customer behaviors influenced by macroeconomic factors, which served as the catalyst for new products. - Improve supply chain agility by emphasizing our factory's, co-manufacturers', and other logistics service providers' operating efficiency and effectiveness. - Increasing e-commerce, digital, and data analytics skills to enable digitization. -Manage regulatory changes in your area, such as the Sugar Sweetened Beverage Tax and the Digital Tax. •

CONCURRENT CONTROL

Dutch Lady UHT full cream milk is a product that is preserved using the Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) method and packaged in aseptic packaging made of paperboard, polyethylene, and aluminium foil with qualities against pH, oxygen, light, and microbial deterioration. As a result, the physical stress placed on the packaging, which could lead to a breaking, is a major contributor to the deterioration of UHT Milk. Furthermore, breakages generated by physical stress increase the risk of biological and physical deterioration factors such as color and flavor changes caused by light exposure, oxidative rancidity caused by oxygen exposure, and contamination by foodpoisoning microbes. So, the company take a proactive approach to prevent their product to have a bad outcome. The ways that have been taken are during the process of manufacturing milk: -RECOMBINATION PROCESS TO PREVENT SPOLING FROM OXYGEN To re-establish the consistency of natural milk, a recombined milk product is made by combining milk fat and milk solids-nonfat with or without water. The recombination of milk begins with the dispersion of skim milk powder in water at a temperature of 40 to 50 degrees Celsius. The milk powder is injected into the water using a hopper, with caution given to avoid any air incompatibility. Pre-empting the milk powder in a dry room with a dust-removal device is a frequent recombination procedure. Following the in-cooperation of milk powder with water, the reconstituted milk is left to hydrate for at least 15 to 20 minutes in order to reduce the powdery and chalky mouth feel. To guarantee thorough hydration, some milk product manufacturers store reconstituted milk overnight at 4 C before further processing. After the hydration process is completed, the reconstituted milk is filtered to remove any undissolved milk powder particles. The reconstituted milk is next vacuum de-aerated for 20 minutes to eliminate any occluded air that may be present in the milk powder, preventing heat exchanger fouling and excessive oxidation. Finally, the reconstituted milk is heated to 60 to 65 degrees Celsius in a static mixer with the help of liquid milk fat or anhydrous milk fat to form a course emulsion. -ASEPTIC PACKAGING TO PREVENT SPOILING FROM MICROORGANISME Aseptic packaging is a method of preserving sterile milk products by filling them into a sterile container (aseptic tank) in a sterile environment. It is then sealed using a continuous process that provides high operating flexibility as well as strong microbiological contamination resistance. Furthermore, the use of aseptic packaging allows the milk to be packaged into a very adaptable container that does not require refrigerated and can be easily transported in areas where refrigeration is not readily available. Tetra Pak's tetrahedral-shaped paperboard cartons, which are constructed from a laminated roll stock consisting of polyethylene, paper, polyethylene,

10

aluminium foil, polyethylene, and a covering of ionomer resin, are the most popular aseptic containers used in UHT milk. -ULTRA HIGH TEMPERATURE PROCESS TO KILL MICROBES AND MINIMIZE CHEMICAL REACTION IN THE MILK When compared to in-container sterilized milk, the combination of UHT processing and aseptic packaging in milk was developed to provide a shelf stable product while minimizing chemical change. In the UHT process, there are two types of heating methods: direct and indirect heating. The UHT technique is achieved by mixing superheated steam with milk in direct heating. While in-direct heating achieves UHT by transferring heat from a plate heat exchanger (PHE) across a partition between the milk and the heating medium (either steam or hot water) via a partition between the milk and the heating medium. The ultra-high temperature processing involves heating the milk in a continuous process system to a reasonably high temperature of roughly 135 degrees Celsius, holding it for at least two seconds, and then rapidly cooling it. Because the UHT procedure sterilizes and cools the flowing liquid milk in a relatively short period, the long-term heat penetration problem caused by in-container sterilization is avoided. Unwanted changes in flavor and nutritional quality of the milk are reduced because to the UHT process's quick heat transfer technique.
