Syed Saddiq A Politician, Influencer & Benefactor

4|P age

Syed Saddiq bin Syed Abdul Rahman was born on 6 December, 1992 in Pulai, Kangkar Pulai, Malaysia. Syed Saddiq is a Malaysian politician who has represented Muar in the Malaysian Parliament since May 2018. He served as the Minister of Youth and Sports in former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's Pakatan Harapan administration from July 2018 to February 2020. He was a founding member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a former PH alliance component party, and served as the party's first Youth Chief from September 2016 until his dismissal in May 2020. Later that year, he co-founded the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA). He is the youngest cabinet minister to be appointed at the age of 25, as well as the third youngest MP in Malaysian history, after P. Prabakaran, who was elected in 2018 at the age of 21, and Najib Razak, who was elected in 1976 at the age of 22. There are multiple reasons why Syed Saddiq is a name worth to be mentioned upon, some of them are indeed written in his biography above. However, in this case, his superpower does not end there. Here are some of his greatness that made him worthy of the attention and admiration he’s been getting nowadays. First and foremost, it is a known fact that Syed Saddiq is a professional debater. He has proven time and time again that with proper debating skills, you can win in everything. He is an expert debater with excellent English skills. It's no surprise that he's won the Asian British Parliamentary ABP Debating Championship Asia Best Speaking award three times with his wild debating skills. Although, his talent does not come naturally as one might expect. He has made a just statement, in his own words whereas admitting that, if people would have met him five years ago, he is like a totally different person. He could speak English but his English wasn’t good. He has never gotten A’s for his English papers and English papers in Malaysia are not difficult. His knowledge was abysmal. He thought Africa was a country, and Egypt was a continent. He still remembers pronouncing recipe as “reh-sip.” It is with hustle that he could get to where he is now. He made it very clear that education is something to be taken seriously and it could literally change one’s life. Going further down the road, Syed Saddiq is a revolutionary. He is very sharp in thinking and has a clear vision of what has been holding Malaysia down for the past decades and hopes to change that for the better. He believes that the youth have the power to change and direct the future of the country. He made a clear statement on the fact that the country's youth have the majority of influence. It's like a sizable portion of the voting base. Ministers have assured him that even if youngsters vote, they can only vote in metropolitan areas. However, that is not true to this matter, youths are not wealthy. Majority of youths are not stable and resourceful enough to buy a house or support a living the re. It is due to the high living cost in city areas that caused the youth to vote in their hometowns in the end. While there are some vocal youth, youth are still in the minority. That, in my opinion is very unfortunate because the future of the country is at stake and we are still entrusting the battles to those over the age of 50. This, is a great concern for Syed Saddiq and he is trying to change that.

Fast forward to the current contributions and activities that Syed Saddiq made nowadays are as such. He has raised quite a few eyebrows in his line of work. He made quite the attraction from being just a young minister to a people’s person that resembles the nature of a young man in his prime. He actively interacts with the youth and audience in social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Tiktok. He listens to those who seek for answers and try to voice out the matter to the higher ups as much as he possibly could. He deliberately mentions the problems and issues that are easily neglected by the government and ask for a change, an answer. He does not stop even with the threats and challenges of being the youngest minister on the cabinet, he does not budge albeit he strongly believes he was about to give in at some point. It was with purpose that he still rose and choose to fight to this day in sense of love and nationalism to the country. Even without the power to make a change in pariament in this time of pandemic, he still manages to make some impressive achievements and contributions, as such, he graduated from his studies abroad for a month and made a sizable contribution using all of his student allowance and fundraising from his classses which amounted to RM50,000. This was his personal effort to help fund families in Muar who are facing financial difficulties purchase the necessities for education regardless of their political background. To bring this matter into conclusion, Syed Saddiq is a worthy public role model through various reason and thorough research about him has lead me to believe that Syed Saddiq is trying to do his best in providing the best example of what to be expected from youth and its capacity in bringing change to this country. Whether it be individual personality, ideologies or personal achievements, Syed Saddiq has provided a positive example and outcome for the public to see. As a viewer and member of the society, I believe his effort was not to be wasted and could potentially help build the next generation of youth to become proactive member of the society that has both courage and mind to make a change whether it be personally or for the country.

EBIT LEW An Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, & Celebrity

Over a decade, the usage of social media around the world has skyrocketed as currently, there are 3.78 billion of social media users, which equivalent to 48% of the current world population. This means, nearly half of the world population are on social media at the moment, and according to Statista, which is famously known for gathering and showing statistics, the number of users is expected to rise even further over the years. Moreover, social media is widely known as a platform that gives people a chance in sharing and expressing their thoughts and ideas freely that would inspire others in doing some sort of things, mainly that concerning positivity. It may be one of the factors that contribute to the growth of social media usage as it attracts people, especially the youths, in using social media so that they are able to express and share their creativity and ideas without restraint. This matter has become a starting point for certain people that seriously express their creativity and thoughts on social media to widely spread their wings on the platform in which they intend to influence or spread the ideas, mainly that concerning positivity towards others in the hope that people may be inspired and tailed them in doing the same or much better. For that reason, the social media influencer term has come into existence and widely used in the English-speaking world. According to the Oxford Dictionary, which notably known as the accepted authority on the English language, an influencer can be defined as a person or thing that may influence another. However, in the social media context, influencers are much known as individuals who have established their own reputation for their knowledge and expertise on a particular topic. Simply put, they create contents or posts regarding their preferred topic on social media platforms and attract many followings from people who may be interested or inspired in the contents. Many social media influencers, suchlike Ebit Lew, create contents with the intention of inspiring others to do the same. For instance, most of his postings on social media platforms are mainly about helping people in needs as well as preaching about Islam religion. Pointing out some references, Ebit Irawan Bin Ibrahim Lew or well-known as Ebit Lew is a Islamic preacher among the Muslim community in Malaysia as he has preached throughout both television and radio channels with programs suchlike Jejak Ebit Lew, Door-to-door Ebit Lew, and A Bit With Ebit. Moreover, Ebit Lew is also an entrepreneur; there are various kinds of business that he currently runs as he realized that fame alone could not assure a lifetime of stable income and might hinder him in his effort to aid those who are in needs.

As the outbreak of the coronavirus disease or well known as COVID-19, which firstly emerged in Malaysia on 4th February 2020, the government has announced the Restriction of Movement Order (RMO) on 18th March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as it spread rapidly among the Malaysians in particular. This action prohibited the movement among the people nationwide as well as forced both local and federal industries to be closed, which stunted the nation economy. Due to this, the rates of unemployment became significantly higher than before as people are losing their jobs. Acknowledging the hardship of those affected by the pandemic crisis, Ebit Lew has come to the rescue by fulfilling the needs of those who are in distress. For instance, Ebit Lew and his team have helped a man and family by providing them with a new home as their residence has caught on fire which coerced the family to shelter themselves temporarily in the car due to financial difficulties. Moreover, with an intention to help those on low incomes, 14 branches of Elewsmart, which is a convenience store, are opened by selling the necessities at a lower price. Apart from that, Ebit Lew also continued his humanitarian aid journey by flying across the sea to help those in Sabah as the frontliners are confronting with the shortage of medical equipment suchlike PPE, face masks, and shoe covers which might risk them towards COVID-19. Due to his good deeds, particularly in Semporna, many believe that it might be one of the significant factors of the controversial mass conversion of the Sea Gypsies community. As the COVID-19 cases arise day by day, the government has taken the final word and decided to temporarily shut down all academic institutions, which coerced the academic community to shift and relying more on the use of technology as the education still needs to be continued regardless of reasons. However, not everyone is born with a silver spoon as there are certain people, especially students, who cannot afford smartphones due to financial difficulties, particularly during this time of the pandemic, which indeed affects their parent’s primary source of income. Recognizing the hardship of the post-COVID-19 students, Ebit Lew has begun the move in his mission to lighten the burdens of those who are in distress. For example, Ebit Lew has given out 100 Samsung tablets for the students in order for them to continue the learning lessons at home, which this matter has become a shocking headline for the news nationwide. Not merely that, as he received a lot of messages, Ebit Lew has distributed 500 more tablets which in total, 600 tablets have he donated for educational purposes. Moreover, Ebit Lew also has financially sponsored an outstanding student by fulfilling her education needs in order for her to pursue her degree in accounting.

9|P age

All of his humanitarian activities are posted on social media and aired on television through a program called Jejak Ebit Lew which documented him and his team lightening the burdens of those who are in difficulties throughout this COVID-19 times in particular. This matter has branded him not only just a preacher or entrepreneur but a philanthropist as well. Even so, Ebit Lew also has received some backlashes and criticisms as certain people made the perception that his charity work on social media is just a way to show off. Yet, many believe that it might help in raising awareness of the impoverishment that happens in Malaysia. Despite all of the controversy, we cannot simply deny that he is just using his privileges to benefit the underprivileged.
