This essay is a reflection and analysis of Ji miHendr i x&t heExper i enceconcer t ,Li vei n St ockhol mi n1969.This concert was recorded on January 9th, 1969. The concert analyzed for this paper was recorded in The Konserthuset in Stockholm, Sweden as part of The Jimi Hendrix Experience European Tour of 1969. The lineup of instrumentation during this Jimi Hendrix performance in Europe began with Jimi Hendrix as singer and guitarist, bassist Noel Redding, and drummer Mitch Mitchell. During this concert, the band performed some of their debut songs along with cover songs.

During the tour Hendrix performed two shows in Stockholm, the first show was uninspired keeping themselves separated from the audience in difference of the usual concert behavior of Hendrix of talking with the public. But the second one can be considered a great concert. The performance exhibits a fluidity, drive with Redding and Mitchell providing an excellent platform and connection with Hendrix’s playing.

This two-part concert falls into the category of Psychedelic Rock with the band performing songs from their albums “Are your Experienced,” “Axis: Bold as Love,” and “Electric Lady” such as Spanish Castle Magic, Fire, Voodoo Child, Red House, I Don’t Live Today, and, Purple Haze. Along with their songs they also perform six cover songs as Killing Floor from Howlin’ Wolf, Hey Joe from The Leaves, Sunshine of Your Love cover of Cream and John Stafford Smith’s The Star-Spangled Banner.

After hearing this concert to perform an analysis for the class I noticed the difference between the different concerts we have heard over the semester from jazz to rock, and in the way learning and appreciating different kinds of music. In my opinion, this concert was good, interesting and different from the previous I had seen, as in this one Hendrix would make comments to the audience and talk to himself in a way I hadn’t seen before. The heat and drive of the songs are fun and really demonstrate the genre of psychedelic rock, but still it is not the type of music I enjoy and I found gladder to myself the jazz concerts of previous modules....
