Description

1 Jury Duty

It is the role of the jury to make a verdict to the court. The jury concludes after examining all material facts of the case, evidence from both sides of the trial, and applying all relevant laws. As a psychologist in the jury, my role will be to examine the suspect and the witness (Morrow, 2020). Certain psychological factors may affect the credibility of evidence and witness statements. Upon hearing all the material facts presented in this case, the jury has agreed that the suspect cannot be deemed and the detectives to carry further investigation regarding the case. The following is the thought process of the jury. Evidence The evidence presented before the court is not sufficient enough to make a final verdict. The murder weapon, in this case, was not found. In this case, the detectives had two primary suspects, making it difficult to justify the primary witness as the killer. Credibility of Witnesses The two witnesses, in this case, testified to have seen the primary suspect shoot the victim twice. The first witness was unable to identify the witness correctly. The exposure time taken by the witness to view the offender is little. Furthermore, she was under shock and in fear, which affects the credibility of the witness information. Her failure to correctly identify the witness affects the accuracy of the identification process. Witness two seems to identify the witness. However, she identifies him as her cousin, whom she has only seen once. The fact that

2 she has never seen him again affects the credibility of the witness statement. Additionally, the fact that the second witness feared for her life jeopardizes her witness statement. The prosecution cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty of the murder charge. The jury recommends further investigation into the case.
