Fertile Land in the northernmost regions. Dry desert in the south. Location is near the two large rivers of Tigris and Euphrates.

Polytheistic. Believed in multiple Gods. Anu, the God of heaven. Enlil, the God of air. Enki, the God of water, and Ninhursag, the mother goddess. There were temples to honor these Gods, along with Ziggurats that were made to please the Gods.

Monarchy style. Had kings but they ruled much smaller areas. Set the groundwork for other civilizations.

Priests and Nobles were at the top of the social class pyramid. Then merchants, artisans, farmers, and commoners. This is also known for advancing technology.

Egypt

Super dry. Desert climate. Pyramids of Giza. Located along the River Nile. Ethiopian Mountains. Rich volcanic silt.

Polytheistic. Performed rituals. Believed in many different deities. Gods had control of the nature of Egypt..

Pharaohs. Pharaohs listened to the Gods to make their decisions..

Developed hieroglyphics. They were skilled engineers and were the pioneers of modern medicine and technology.

India

Indus River, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Himalayas, Ganges River, Deccan Plateau.

The Aryans brought many different religious beliefs. Hinduism and Buddhism were huge in India and still are huge in India.

The Caste System. In order, Brahmins, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra. Dalit is considered to be outside the system.

The religion played a big part in the culture of India. The goal of Buddhism is to live a balanced life while being able to escape the suffering of desire.Hinduism was the based off the Upanishads which states that all beings are a universal soul, or Brahman. Ultimate goal would be

Nirvana. A lot of the major developments in India are because of the Indus River. The river provided soil and nutrients and also was an outlet to the Arabian sea.India also made major communication and technological advances. One major innovation was the Sanskrit writing system, which was the primary writing system and language system in ancient India.

China

Yellow River, Yangtze River, Light easy to plow fertile land. Rice, millet, wheat, barley were some of the often used crops. Having soft soil means more issues with erosion.

Daoism, Confucianism, Legalism. Confucianism is the philosophy of promoting justification and fairness. Daoism, rituals and reverences to a divine entity. Daoism is about living in harmony. Legalism is about more government and political action.

Xia, Shang, Zhou Dynasty. Xia was the start of Chinese civilization in 2100 BCE. Shang was started in 1600 BCE and was based on the work of regional bureaucracy. Trade, and also developed an early writing system known as oracle bone.The Zhou Dynasty set up a new political order around 1050 BCE. There were two phases of the Zhou Dynasty, The Western and Eastern Phase.

The Mandate of Heaven was a huge deal. Basically, there was a divine power that blessed emperors and allowed them to make decisions to rule. This brought peace to the people of China, knowing that their ruler was mandated by a divine power. When bad stuff happens, the bond between heaven and earth. Which basically kept China honest. The Mandate of Heaven was a big part of China until Confucianism was established, which was philosophy based. Bronze metallurgy began during the Xia dynasty but was perfected during the Shang dynasty. A lot of the iron products that were made in China weren’t available to anyone

else but the upper class.This then led to iron tools and iron weapons. Written Chinese language was initially developed to communicate with the gods. The writing characters were eventually made to represent commonly sought things. Once again, only the most educated and wealthy families would be educated. The end result would be the Mandarin Chinese language, that is still used today.
