MEBUS Class Guidelines Agreement...

Description

Joel A. Katz Music & Entertainment Business Program Guidelines Syllabus This course is reflective of the music and entertainment business itself and as such will require a spirit of flexibility and adaptability in order to achieve success. As necessary, we will make changes to the timing of events on the syllabus to deliver our best efforts in preparing you for a career in a very demanding and exciting industry. We understand that the Music & Entertainment Business Program requires hard work and a significant time investment. Because of this, some students may find that the program is not the right match for their goals. In this case, it may be in the student’s best interest to seek another program to develop their skills. By signing this form, you acknowledge that you have read and understand the MEBU course syllabus, and agree to comply with the policies and procedures stated within. Audio/ Video Recording Studio in House 55 MEBUS students are allowed to utilize the recording studio in house 55 for class projects or any recording projects of their own. For private recording sessions, we ask that you reserve recording time with Music & Technology Instructor, Danny Howes. Students are under no obligation to use what is offered and no MEBUS faculty or staff would profit from any such arrangement. Time commitments Because it is our mission to prepare leaders for the music and entertainment industry, the MEBUS courses are designed to be rich in real world experience. To gain that experience, you can expect to spend roughly 6 hours a week on MEBUS activities outside of class. The experience and the knowledge gained here will give you a solid foundation and confidence in yourself as you build your career. You should look at this experience as an investment in your future career opportunities. Your chances for success in the music and entertainment business are greatly enhanced if your attitude is one of going above and beyond what is expected. Success in the music and entertainment business requires a variety of skills from diverse fields. You will greatly limit your career potential if you only contribute minimal effort. You must be present to win. No drugs or alcohol If you work in the music and entertainment business you will often find yourself in venues that serve alcohol. Know that when you are working you must have personal guidelines that insure you always conduct yourself in a professional manner. The policy of the Joel A. Katz Music & Entertainment Business Program concerning drugs and alcohol is one of zero tolerance. Do not use drugs or alcohol if you are participating in a KSU MEBUS activity. Any infraction will be cause for dismissal from the Program. Externship Requirement In addition to their regular course of study, students are required to complete an externship in MEBU 3100, 4100 and 4200 where they work on site at least 6 hours minimum per week upon placement. This opportunity is not only a valuable real world experience, but also a great networking opportunity for students to use during their job search. Students are individually placed according to their interests and strengths. This is an extremely beneficial experience for the students and will also increase awareness of the MEBU Program as the students become more visible in the music and entertainment industry. Students are required to report any problems, questions, issues or concerns to MEBUS Director, Keith Perissi, during their externship assignment.
