DATE OF REPORT SUBMISSION: 15 APRIL 2021 LECTURER’S NAME: DR YONG SOON KONG
Title: Soil texture by the “feel method”
Objectives: 1. To determine soil textural classes based on characteristics of soil minerals sand, silt and clay by using “Feel Method” 2. Qualitatively determine soil textural class of soil samples using feel method
Introduction: Soil texture is important in which it can be evaluate the amount of water, nutrients and contents in the soil. Soil texture can be influence drainage, susceptibility to erosion, organic matter content, cationic exchange capacity, pH buffering capacity and soil tilth.
Materials
Soil samples
Water
Ruler
Procedure 1. Approximately one tablespoon of soil samples was taken and placed on the hand. Few drops of water were added and the soil sample was shape like a ball 2. The soil samples were then tried to form a ribbon with uniform thickness. The soil samples were emerging and extend then broke. 3. The broken soil samples were then measured by using ruler 4. The soil texture was then recorded in the data.
