Hannah Hazel V. Dullar BSED III – English Language Functions 1. Instrumental function: getting what they want Ex. gathering materials in classroom. -

Most of the activities done in school requires gathering of materials they needed for the particular game or activity. Students in this situation always tend to get what they needed and what they wanted in order to accomplish the task.

2. Regulatory function: regulate or control other people’s behavior Ex. Making rules and giving instructions -

There are rules and instructions that are need to be followed everyday in school. This is one of the activity that every school has in order to maintain a proper structure and arrangement. This activity control the actions and behavior of the receiver.

3. Interactional Function: interact with the people around them Ex. Dialogues and discussion and group talks -

Talking with each other inside the classroom is a sign of interaction. So, dialouges and discussion are one of the activities that promotes interaction among the people inside the classroom. Also, group talks is another example since it also required talking with each other which also results to interaction.

4. Personal function: express their awareness of themselves Ex. Openness to feelings and open forums -

In personal function, children try to express themselves in the most possible way they can. Open forum is one great thing to allow the children to express their thoughts and emotions that they need to let out.

5. Heuristic Function: recognized the boundary between themselves and the environment Ex. Question and answer and also open forums -

This function often says “Why did you do that?” so this need to have an activity that will allow the students to have interactions with each other and openness with each other also. Questions and answer activities and open forums are perfect for this kind of function since it is the start of the children wanting to explore the things around them

6. Imaginative function: create an environment of their own Ex: Stories, dramatization, and role play -

This function allows the student to create an environment for their own and it is often created when they start to drama. Most activities in school that requires acting are dramatization and role play. This can help the students create an environment for their own.

7. Representational function: to inform or provide an information Ex. Expressing propositions and conveying messages -

These activities allow the students to give information to the listener or the receiver....
