Learning Styles Comparison

There are different learning styles and all educators need to have an understanding of them in order to be successful. Not everyone will learn with the same type of style or on the same level so this can be very challenging for all teachers. A teacher needs to know the different learning styles as not only one would be able to work with an entire class of students. The following paper will cover the different learning styles and also which learning style the writer has. Major Learning Styles There are different learning styles that people have and not everyone is the same. Theorists believe that there are learning styles such as auditory, visual and, tactile. While some students may use one of these learning styles there are some that will use a mixture or combination of them. The first learning style mentioned is the auditory learning style. With this learning style the student learns by listening or hearing something. This is a learner who will understand information and remember it by hearing it rather then it being written out in front of them. Most of the time when a auditory learning reads they will do so out loud as they have to hear it in order to retain the information. The next learning style is visual learning that some people use in order to retain information. With this learning style a person will learn and remember things by seeing them or often by reading. While they are learning they can often form a picture of it in their head. They are also ones that like to often see what they are learning rather than hearing it. This type of learner can become easily distracted by any sounds that are around them. They would rather read a map then ask directions for instance. The third learning style mentioned is the tactile style. This type of learner is what is called hands on learner and they often learn by touching and doing something. These learners often retain information and

learn better when there is physical activity that is involved in it. In order for this type of learner to understand the concept of what they are learning they often have to do it rather than just sit and listen or read (Ibrahim & Hussein, 2015). What is similar between all of these styles is that they are all types of learning styles and no matter which one is best for the person they will learn what is being taught. The difference between them is how they are used to teach with. For instance a person would not be able to possibly retain everything if they are a visual learner but the tactile style is used but they may be able to learn somethings. Often a person has more than one learning style that they use to learn new information. Learning Style from Assessment It was rather shocking to see that the learning style that was scored the highest on was the auditory style as it was always thought that the tactile style was more fitting. It now makes sense on why often times after reading something it is found that reading it out loud once again will help in retaining the information that was read. The assessment showed that the tactile style was actually where the score was the lowest out of the three and that is a bit surprising. This assessment shows why taking online courses is easier in order to learn what is being taught. If someone asked what learning style they thought was the best one for me it would have been the tactile prior to taking this assessment but after seeing the results and there meaning it is more understanding on why the scores were what they are. Learning Style Affects and Education While all people use different learning styles when they are trying to further their education it all comes down to the type of learning styles the instruction may use at times (Blevins, 2014). The way that the auditory learning style effects my education is that there is not a classroom where there is an instructor that is saying something out loud so probably the visual

and auditory which is what was scored the highest on during the assessment or both why taking online courses works best. Learning Styles with Adult Education This is important as by the time that people have reached adulthood their learning style is pretty much set in their way. In order to be able to teach a class of students that have ages that can range from teenagers fresh out of high school to adults returning to further their education for numerous reasons there needs to be an understanding in order to reach all of them. If there is an understanding of all of the different types of learning styles then when setting the curriculum often they can all be incorporated into it. By understanding the different learning styles in adult education and training then an instructor would be able to get the best results from the students (Miller, 2016). Conclusion While everyone has different learning styles they can still use a good mixture of them all in order to learn. The assessment was an eye opener and had some really interesting information and great tips in order to be able to get more out of the classes. By knowing the learning style a person has it can help them with studying and retaining information.
