Assisgnment #1...

Description

The Linux operating system is widely used in industry, especially for servers. Why do you believe this is the case? If you've worked with Linux previously, share your experiences. How would you compare it with other operating systems—like Windows? If you have little or no experience with it, what are your perceptions? In addition to your primary forum response, post at least two follow-up responses to your classmates.

Linux Proposal Powerpoint Setup

Faster Computing has contacted Go2Linux and requested a brief proposal presentation for migrating its systems from Windows to Linux. The company is specifically interested in seeing the following information: (10.1.1: Identify the problem to be solved.) 

Based on your current understanding of Faster Computing's business, what are some potential benefits of Linux?

The company is aware that many different Linux derivatives exist. Be very specific and choose only one version (e.g., Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin, Redhat, CentOS, Kali). Which would Go2Linux recommend, and why? Give specific reasons for your choice (e.g., security features, support, updates, user interface).

Slide Narration: Slide 1: Intro RECORDED Slide 2: Overview RECORDED Today we’ll be discussing Kali Linux, Steps for migration from Windows to Linux, Linux Workstations, and File sharing, Services, and Printing. We’ll discuss Kali Linux and what it has to offer Faster Computing and how we will migrate from Windows to Linux and what is required for that. Then we’ll discuss the Kali Linux workstations and how they are similar and different from Windows. Lastly, well discuss Linux functions and services that will aid Faster Computing. Slide 3: RECORDED Kali Linux is the chosen platform for Faster Computing. Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution aimed to those at the advanced Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. Kali Linux has several tools that are geared towards Penetration Testing, Security Research, Computer Forensics, and Reverse Engineering. Free Online Course are offered through Metasploit Unleashed. Kali Linux is also a fullfledged desktop that has a similar setup to Windows, which will allow for an easy transition. Linux, also offers usability support and security. Usability compared to Windows starts off a bit backwards due to the fact Linux is complicated to install but can complete tasks easier while Windows gives a simple task to operate but will take longer to install. Though Linux may have a complicated installation the support offered is immense. Kali Linux not only offers full support, but the Linux community through forums/websites and online search. Windows has support that is easily accessible as well, but it may require payment. Linux’s security is far more superior that Windows due to where hackers or

developers of viruses will find difficult to break through Linux. Windows is the major target for developers of viruses and malware and is the most vulnerable without anti-virus software. Slide 4: Linux Migration Ensure existing environment and understand it thoroughly. If Go2Linx is chosen to assist Fast Computing we will take care of looking at the hardware and deciding if any further purchases will be needed. Fasting Computing has made the decision to migrate from Windows-to-Linux due to ways to reduce the cost of IT and control of their employee desktops. Identifying which employees within the organization are best candidates for a Linux based alternative desktop will require each department to chose 2-3 people. Each department will need to decide those who will lead the first migration in order to ensure it is success. In the next slide we will discuss the Window Subsystem that will be implemented during the early stages of the migration as well. Finally, Fast Computing wants to prepare their employees. Those employees who express the concern for more training than what is originally offered will only help the migration from Windows to Linux much more successful. Slide 5: Window Subsystem for Linux

Go2Linux proposes that those chosen employees that are going to lead the Linux migration have one of the three persons use Window Subsystem for Linux. Windows Subsystem is optimal to use when there are various environmental restrictions (lack of raw sockets and customized Kali kernel). Window Subsystem is free, which will not put any further financial burden on Fasting Computing if you chose not to use Kali Linux. Using Window Subsystem enables the use of Linux directly on a Windows 10. Slide 6: Linux Services Samba is an open source suite that provides file and print services
