Leila Payne Professor Ballard English 101 21 September 2018 Literacy Narrative and Reflection I received a Kindle E-reader for my twelfth birthday. It was the original standard model that probably could have snapped in half if I applied too much force while gripping it. Initially, I used it to play puzzle games and read children’s books, but I eventually transformed the way I utilized it nearly a year later. Following the recommendation of an acquaintance, I downloaded City of Bones, the first novel out of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. It was a book about angels and demons, and as a thirteen-year-old, I soaked it all up. After downloading this book on that flimsy device, I discovered a newfound love for reading. I explored an eclectic collection of genres. I read at least twenty-one novels that summer (a brand new record to my young adolescent self) and it was finally an enjoyable experience. Succeeding that communication altering encounter came my college application. I found composing essays for CES admissions particularly daunting. This was considering the fact that I was expected to impress a completely foreign audience. These were the first pieces of persuasion that would dictate the way I lived my life. I attempted multiple times to create such essays without fruition. I needed to write about experiences that would portray myself as an eligible student with potential. With inspiration, I conjured topics that displayed my experience. I took into account the necessity of grammatical acumen. This significantly improved my ability to identify my audience as well as persuade them. Through the invention of new e-reading technology and a college application I gained an

appreciation for receiving information and the ability to communicate my strengths and potential. I know that these interactions will serve me as I continue with my life and the path ahead of me....
