Description

There are several circumstances led the end of Athenians Golden Age according to the textbook, and the most influential circumstances is the Age of Pericles. The Pericles Age (449 – 429 BC) well known as “The School of Greece” where all the first democracy and political occur. (Brand, J, n.d). He was born from noble Athenians family in the middle of Peloponnesian war. During the golden age, Pericles set up the Delian League which was the first step of democracy. He had restructure the Athenians life by changing the government and constitution. He had highlight the equality by allow all citizens to serve in civil service regardless of their class. Pericles also initiate to pay all the citizens who serve in juries, who were participated in freedom of speech, and related to political action. Pericles promoted the art, literature, and philosophy as the power of Athens. The famous Philosophers Socrates were born in the Pericles golden age and he contributed to the literature science, the famous idea was about the rhetorical and the born of sophist. Sparta seen the golden age of Pericles as a threat, in 431 BC Spartans warriors destroy Athens and killed hundreds people. Wall of the Athens destroyed and Sparta win. The age of Pericles ended but the ideas of the government, politics, constitutions, democracy, law, public constitution, citizenship and equality live on. References: Butler, C. (2007).
