Bria Grant Professor Marks Intro to Corrections 23 Feb 2021 Locked Up Raw Assignment The episode I chose is from the series Locked Up Raw. The episode is filmed in Memphis Tennessee in a medium security facility. Memphis is known very well for gang violence, so it’s not a surprise to know that that is the main problem in the prison. From the unit in the episode, it appears to be a first generation prison. The officers do not have automatic doors to control the inmates. This facility handles their prison in a more direct way. Gangs in this area are very high. Gang affliction books have all of the information about an inmate being inducted in a gain. ABout 90% of the inmates are gang affiliated. Another issue that this prison has is drugs. Drugs keep finding their way into the prison. More than likely someone from the prisons staff is supplying the drugs to the inmates. Some of the drugs can include: crack, “rocks”, weed, and pills. Since there are so many gangs it is not unlikely to know that inmates are getting into a scuffle. If one fights liely all of the inmates affiliated with the gang are going to fight or vice versa. Gang leaders are the only ones that won’t be labeled a snitch when dealing with problems. Having gang leaders come to the prison guards helps escalate problems before they happen. The gangs in the prison mostly include: Vice Lords, Crips, Bloods, and Gang Disciples. One inmate who claims to be a vice lord paints his face different colors to signify the actions he wants to take place. He does this to symbolize his power over the inmates and authority. You can also see pimps, rapists, gang members, drug abusers, and murderers in this
prison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0q12MMyBH30&t=63s...
