GENERAL COMMENTS 1.
2.
These tables have been prepared for a range of attached and freestanding verandah and carport designs using structural sections and roof sheeting manufactured by BlueScope LYSAGHT ®. Design information has been taken from; – S.A.A. Loading Code AS/NZS 1170.0 - 2002 – Part 0: General Principles. – S.A.A. Loading Code AS/NZS 1170.1 - 2002 – Part 1: Permanent, imposed and other actions. – S.A.A. Loading Code AS/NZS 1170.2 - 2002 – Part 2: Wind Actions. – S.A.A. S.A.A. Cold – Formed Steel Structures Code AS/NZ 4600 – 1996. – S.A.A. Design and installation of Metal Roofing Code AS 1562.1. – Wind Loads for Housing, AS 4055-1992. – Using LYSAGHT ® Zeds & Cees for purlins and girts – January 2002. The design of cladding spans and their related connections has been determined by testing in accordance with the following standards; – AS4040.2-1992 Methods of testing sheet roof and wall cladding – Resistance to wind pressures for cyclone regions. – AS1562.1-1992 Design and installation of sheet roof and wall cladding – Metal. The information in this booklet is suitable for use only in areas where a tropical cyclone is unlikely to occur as defined in SAA Loading Code AS/NZS 1170. 2 – 2002 Part 2: Wind Actions. Designs have been classified using a similar system to that outlined in AS 4055 and the BCA. The designs contained within these tables relate to gust wind speeds of W28, W33, W37, W41 m/s to region A in terrain with numerous closely spaced obstructions having the size of domestic houses (3m to 5m high). All erection and connection details to be in accordance with the relevant standard LYSAGHT ® connection detail drawings contained in this document. Footings shall be to the sizes and shape nominated in the span tables and founded into a firm natural soil base. Concrete to have a minimum strength of 20MPa with a maximum 80mm slump. The capacity of the existing structure to withstand the additional loads arising from the attached verandah or carport must be verified by a suitably qualified engineer. It is advised to check with your local government authority to determine any specific requirements for the attachment to existing structures.

9.
The roof cladding and supporting structure have been designed as ‘No Foot Traffic’ structures. Cladding and structural members shall not be walked on during and after construction. Signs stating ‘No Foot Traffic’ shall be installed to roof cladding at all access points in accordance with local workcover legislation. We recommend the use of two metre minimum length crawl boards for any access to the roof sheeting during construction or the service life of the roof for maintenance or any other access purpose to prevent any damage to the roofing.
10. The span tables have been designed as a complete set. Only the components specified in them may be used. 11. The verandah and carport tables are not sufficient for full enclosure. For one side enclosed tables, a verandah and carport are considered open if at least three of it's four sides are open and at least one third of it's perimeter is open. For a side to be considered open, the roof cladding adjacent to that side must be at least 500mm from another building or allotment boundary. 12. Dead loads have been used where applicable, including self-weight of structure and cladding only. No allowance has been made for ceilings. 13. Minimum roof pitch shall be 1°, 1 in 60, HSKL700 .48 BMT 2°, 1 in 30, Otherwise 14. The Serviceability criteria used for attached and free standing is Span/150. 15. For freestanding verandahs & carports that have 1side enclosed, the enclosed side must have column supports for the wall cladding at 2500mm maximum centres for the full length of the enclosure. The exception to this rule is where the overall total length of the enclosed side is 5000mm in which case only 2 corner columns are required, effectively supporting 2500mm of wind load each. 16. All edge fascia beams are permitted to have only one adjoining rafter beam between columns. Designs requiring more than one rafter beam to the edge fascia beam between columns need to be carried out by a suitably qualified engineer. The LYSAGHT ® carport and verandah system have been designed as a complete unit. Any warranties provided by LYSAGHT ® will only apply if all components have been supplied by LYSAGHT ®, and installed in accordance with LYSAGHT ® details. To ensure maximum lifespan for your LYSAGHT ® verandah or carport, consult your nearest LYSAGHT ® branch for information regarding maintenance, handling, storage and any other technical assistance you may require.
