QUESTION International Institute for Leadership Development (IILD) was set up in the country in the early '90s. This established institute has many branches nationwide and has taught thousands of Malaysians to become a high-performance leaders. Since it was opened, IILD has built a reputation as the country's best leadership training institute. IILD was ranked as number one in Malaysia for the executive education program. The program run by the institute is ideal for an experienced executive who wants to get to the highest level of sustained performance. At IILD, the executive will experience the training that successful business leaders use to achieve great results consistently. Currently, IILD faces intense competition from other well-known and established institutes. ILD is facing competition from its direct rivals IMD. Leading in the Digital Age is part of IMD’s digital business series, which provide the executive with the tools to develop the skills and capabilities to be an effective leader in the digital age era. Not only that, but the substitute products also threaten IILD. With the advancement of technology, industry boundaries have become blurred. For example, physical brick and mortar institutes now face other forms of competition. The international online management training institute is preferable since it is convenient, has flexible learning time, and conducts the training by a world-class leader. During the discussion with the industry analyst, they believe that IILD will face the sustainability issue if it is not seriously monitoring the external environment. With the current unprecedented growth in demand of the management training centre among Malaysians, leadership programs are much sought after by those interested in becoming a high-performance leaders. There are many well-known and established institutes that offer innovative and varieties of training programs. Some offer small classes emphasizing personal coaching. In addition, others claim to use the latest and sophisticated information technology (IT) methods on learning how to become a great leader. Required: a. Do you agree with the industry analysts that it is important for the management of IILD to monitor its external environment seriously? Explain your answer with three (3) reasons. (10 marks) b.
