Katelyn Gladstone Maple Syrup Heist Homework 1.How did the situation develop? Who was involved? Due to the rules and regulations of the Federation in Canada, it lead many people to start to sell syrup on the black market illegally and transport and distribute it. Richard Valliers was the main man involved with the heist as well as St. Pierre. Valliers was accused of being behind the operation and replacing tons of maple syrup with water and then moving it. St.Pierre was also accused of buying the stolen syrup and reselling it, fraud and trafficking. 2. What viewpoints are represented by the people involved in this situation? Do they have conflicting values? Richard Valliers claimed that he had been “forced” to buy the maple syrup after being threatened. This claim did not support him and he was charged with theft, fraud, and trafficking of stolen goods. The truck driver who was heavily interviewed in the netflix episode claimed that he had no idea that the maple syrup was stolen and was just doing his job. 3. How were business professionals involved in the development of this problem? How might they be involved in the solution? St.Pierre was involved in the process of rebranding the syrup and selling it, without him Valliers would not have been successful in making a profit from the stolen product. They were both heavily involved in the heist and had people that were also anti federation working for them to then carry the heist through, 4. How might the dilemma be resolved? What have been (or might be) its consequences? The dilemma was resolved in court and the three main men involved were prosecuted for their crimes of trafficking and theft. The consequences were just due the fact that they stole 1,000 barrels, each barrell worth more than a barrel of crude oil adding up to millions of dollars in product....
