Description

MATH.2830 Technology Homework 2, Fall 2019 Use SPSS for all analytic work. Failure to use SPSS where applicable will result in the problem(s) not being graded.

Use the data for Global Warming

(20 pts) Make a scatter plot of the data using the year as the explanatory variable.

(20 pts) Find the least squares regression line and show the line on your scatter plot with the equation.

(20 pts) What is value of r2 ? What does it tell you?

R^2 = 0.519 This means that the problem is not linear because R^2 is far away from 1.

(20 pts) In the context of the problem, what is your conclusion?

This problem is not linear. The data is showing a very inconsistent but slight increase in temperature over time.

The following is adapted from Moore, David S. The Basic Practice of Statistics, 7th Edition. Worth Publishers, 20150109. VitalBook file. In academics, faculty typically start as assistant professors, are promoted to associate professor (and gain tenure), and finally reach the rank of full professor. Some have argued that women have a harder time gaining promotion to associate and full professor than do men. Do data support this argument? The excel file labeled “Rank vs Sex HW 2” is the result of doing a google search to research this question. The data represents the faculty including the rank of instructor for Texas Tech University in the fall of 2013. The rank of instructor is lower than assistant professor. The data excludes those who are not ranked. This Information was found at the following web address https://www.depts.ttu.edu/irim/NEWFACTBOOK/Faculty/2013/F13RANKSEX.php .

(15 pts) Using the data provided make a side by side bar chart to help determine if the claim can be supported. (Hint the colors will be based on female and male.)

(10 pts) After looking at the side by side chart, does it appear to support the claim? Explain your answer.

This data supports the claim that women have a harder time getting promoted to associate professors and full professors than men. The graph shows that fewer women are granted these promotions more than men....
