Basic Rules to be followed throughout All MAT and NUR Courses Zeros  

Place a zero “0” before a decimal point ( 0.5) NO trailing zero at the end of a set of numbers with a decimal (0.50 never)

Rounding 

Round to the nearest 1/10th o pound for children and adults o kilogram for adults and children o mL if the amount to be given is ≥ (greater than or equal to) 1 mL for injections for adults and children o degree for C◦ or F◦ temperatures



Round to the nearest 1/100th o BSA for adults and children _____________________ BSA = √ weight (kg) x height (cm) 3600 o o

Formulas to Memorize for Temperature Conversion ˚C to ˚F:

˚F = 1.8 (˚C) + 32

˚F to ˚C:

˚C = ˚F – 32 1.8

Intravenous Calculations  
