Mode of Action

Coumadin

Coumadin is prescription medicine used to treat blood clots and to lower the chance of blood clots forming in your body.

Prevention of thrombus formation. Prevention of extension of existing thrombi (full dose). Prophylaxis and treatment of various thromboembolic disorders, including Venous thromboembolism, pulmonary emboli, atrial fibrillation with embolization, acute and chronic consumptive coagulopathies, peripheral arterial thromboembolism. Used in very low doses (10–100 units) to maintain patency of IV catheters (heparin flush)

Prevention of thrombus formation.

Indications

Prophylaxis and treatment of venous thrombosis and its extension, pulmonar y embolism (PE).

Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in surgical and medical patients. Treatment of DVT (with warfarin). Prevention of ischemic complications (with aspirin) from unstable angina, non–Q-wave MI.
