Description

Date: March 8th, 2020 To: Professor Messano From: Coby Schmutter Re: Career Research Interview As per your request, I am writing to you in effort to discuss my learnings from the Career Research Interview I conducted with Adam Trisk. Throughout the interview, I questioned Adam on his past life experiences asking what the correlated effect was to get him to where he is now. Adam gave me broad examples of certain themes/lessons he learned such as how to be “all about the costumer” and to continuously combine what you learn from different classes/situations to generate more skill in a chosen profession. From this interview, I was able to learn a lot about what it is like to work in my career field. Adam has worked in the Advertising/Marketing/Innovation “world” for over twenty years now, and has had many different experiences with many different companies. One thing that stood out to me the most, was when asking Adam if he was content/happy with his current position at Simba, he said being happy is not something you should ask someone. He believes that the question of “Are you satisfied?” is a better question because it allows the individual to reflect on what they are learning within that job, what their opportunity is, and to continue pushing themselves to become better. This is very true because throughout our lives, many people consistently worry about their level of happiness, however if we focused on our satisfaction, we would probably feel a lot better about our job and previous experiences. In hindsight, there really is not anything I would have done differently when conducting this interview. The questions I had previously generated were very useful and had led to a very intricate discussion about Adams career path and choices. At the end of the interview, I was complimented on my “questioning skill” and how based on his responses I was able to come up with more follow up questions to gain a better understanding of the points Adam was trying to make, as well I would like to thank you for making me conduct this interview, and allowing me to help shape my perception on what it is like to work in my field of interest....
