The Beatles Part 2: ● The album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band” helped solidify the idea of artrock. ● George Harrison studied the sitar with Ravi Shankar. ● June 25, 1967 - The Beatles appear on Our World, the world’s first live television satellite link-up. It is seen by approximately 400 million people across 5 continents. ● August 27, 1967 - While the Beatles are in Wales with Maharishi Maresh Yogi, Brain Epstein dies. ○ An inquest found the cause of death to be accidental, resulting from “incautious self-overdose” of the drug Carbitral, a drug taken to assist sleep. ● February 1968 - The Beatles go to Rishikesh, India to study with the Maharishi Maresh Yogi. ● “Hey Jude” released on August 30, 1968, was the first release on the Apple Records label and remains The Beatles’ most commercially-successful single. ● When tensions were high, George invited in Keyboard player Billy Preston which helped the group get along better leading to better performances. ● “Let It Be” released on May 8, 1970, was the last Beatles album to be released and was produced by Phil Spector. ● Billy Preston was on the electric piano in “Get Back”...
