Description

How is OH&S policy different from OH&S program An occupational health and safety policy differs from a program in that it is a statement of principles and general rules, not an immediately actionable plan. A policy will generally include the management’s commitment to safety, the objectives of the program that is built around it, the names of those accountable for health and safety, and notes that the safety of workers should always come before productivity and efficiency. An Occupational Health and Safety program is an actionable plan designed to prevent workplace accidents and maladies, and will differ from organization to organization to fit their specific needs. What is the role of OH&S policy and Program in workplace health & safety? The role of the OH&S policy gives an outline of the safety measures and expectations of the workplace. The policy provides guidelines with which the program can be built around, and will offer pertinent information such as the responsibilities of all workplace parties, and to objectives of the OH&S programs. The programs role is to establish correct work procedures that will allow workers to function in the safest possible way while still completing their tasks. This outlines best practices, what things are in place, and emergency procedures so workers and managers know what to do if something should go wrong. Can a worker refuse work because of the COVID-19 pandemic? Why or why not? A worker cannot outright refuse to work due to COVID-19’s existence. They can refuse to work if there is a reasonable link or possibility of contracting COVID-19, the risk is not properly managed, which for example could include a manager not providing adequate PPE, or training to use the PPE.
