OL/PD 224 WINTER 2020 – SUMMARY OF UPDATES Professor Lisa Kuron This document summarizes changes to OL/PD 224 for the Winter 2020 semester following the transition from in-class lecture to online learning. In particular, it provides information with respect to 1) changes to course content and delivery; 2) class contribution options; 3) final exam information; and 4) available support from your instructor. Your instructor will attempt to record meetings through “Virtual Classroom” on MyLearningSpace to help you work through the lecture notes (provided in .doc, .pdf or .ppt format); the meetings will be asynchronous (i.e., you will not attend “live” but can watch at your leisure) o The recorded lectures will be brief, will work through the lecture notes and are meant to give you a reprieve from large amounts of reading; they will not duplicate the traditional “in-class” experience o Note: Lecture notes will not be summaries of the chapter; they are meant to guide students through their learning make sense of the course readings, clarify key constructs and pose questions to foster students further understanding and critical thinking. links to relevant articles, activities or video will be provided, similar to how they would have been discussed in the classroom setting
CLASS CONTRIBUTION OPTIONS To facilitate ongoing discussion, engagement and opportunity for contribution, discussion forums will be set-up on a weekly basis. The discussion prompts will be included at the end of each lecture note and on the discussion board itself Participation in the discussions is optional, though are meant to provide students with an opportunity to apply their learning and earn class contribution marks FINAL EXAM INFORMATION The final exam will continue, as planned, at the date and time previously scheduled o Monday, April 13 at 12:00pm (noon) The final exam will take place online, on MyLS To access the final exam, students are required to 1) have access to a laptop/computer with a webcam and microphone; 2) download Respondus Lockdown Browser; 3) complete a practice quiz. o Further instructions provided on MyLS AVAILABLE SUPPORT FROM YOUR INSTRUCTOR Your instructor is here to support you for the remainder of the semester.
