Essay on disobedience and rebellion through Oscar Wilde....

Description

Kaiya Otsuka Finklestein AP Lang Period 1 Sept. 3, 2020 Movement Progress Oscar Wilde once depicted that disobedience and rebellion bring progress. The progress that Wilde was depicting was towards the greater good of humanity. Throughout history, disobedience and rebellion have brought on changes in society towards equality. Movements such as Women’s Rights, Civil Rights, and Gay Rights. Women’s rights have been fought over for centuries. The fight for equality between men and women is still ongoing today. Until the 1960s, women were taught to obey every command of their husband and father. Most men during the time of the women’s voting act were against the protest for equal rights. Many women were told not to fight for their rights, some were even threatened not to. But their disobedience led to the creation of the 19th Amendment. But again the didn’t stop there, they were still not equal. Women continue to disobey and rebel to gain the equality they deserve. Almost 50 years after the 19th Amendment was ratified, the Fair Housing Act was finally signed into law. The black community could finally vote. They came closer than ever to equality but were still nowhere near equal. Centuries of disobedience among the community finally brought a sliver of equality. But before even this step it took 100 years of rebellion since the slaves were freed. Even as a free race, they still didn’t have any rights. This went on for 100 years and will go on for the next 200. The lack of equality between sexes and race didn’t bring any help to the fight for sexuality. Marshall Kirk and Erastes Pill wrote one of the most influential essays that have never been heard of. The essay was called “The Overhauling of Straight America.” Several years ago LGBTQ activists gave assurances that their agenda was not at odds with religious freedom rights and that they dismissed any argument that promoting homosexual rights was analogous to racial discrimination. Most of the people who were affected by the agenda of Kirk and Pill had never heard of those individuals. But this is not uncommon. Kirk and Pill’s essay alone was an act of disobedience towards every Christian. The people who demonize Christians for not endorsing homosexual behavior-many of whom are Christians themselves-do so primarily because of the strategy put in place by Kirk and Pill.

The three different types of movements alone were acts of rebellion and disobedience. Oscar Wilde was correct when he observed, “Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion.” Disobedience and rebellion through equality movements bring humanity great progress....
